DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Office of Access Opportunity and Achievement Assistant Director the Summer Institute (SI) Program Coordinator will oversee programming responsibility for the residential component of the Summer Institute. SI is an educational opportunity afforded to select students to prepare and orient them to the Ithaca experience. The Program Coordinator is employed for a contract period from June 8 August 2 2026 and serves as a member of the planning team that coordinates SI. The Program Coordinator is expected to live-in for the SI period (June 27 August 1). Strong preference for HEOP or CSTEP alumni from Ithaca College.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
- Work closely with the SI Planning Team and act as the immediate supervisor during evening and weekend hours for 4 undergraduate Peer Mentors (PMs) in the residential hall.
- Serve as primary contact for PM staff in the residence hall and respond to emergency situations and students personal needs. Consult with OAOA staff and make referrals as needed.
- Provide overall residential leadership to the SI community creating a productive living and learning environment conducive to positive student development.
- Cultivate students academic skills development through supervision of structured study hours and development of positive behavioral reinforcement systems.
- Participate in all weekend activities and the opening and closing of SI as directed; provide leadership during all activities through setting a professional and positive tone with students and student staff both on and off campus.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervision/Staff Development: Work with the Assistant Director (AD) on PM training and staff development sessions; participate in/conduct regular individual and group meetings with PM staff in conjunction with the AD; collaborate with AD to address performance concerns and complete end of summer performance evaluations for PM staff.
- Administration and Management: Manage oversight of day to day in-hall and some programmatic operational and administrative functioning and procedures which includes regular consultation and communication with SI administrators and faculty.
- Policy Enforcement and Discipline: Communicate and enforce Ithaca and SI regulations that pertain to residence hall living and evening/weekend programming. Consult with SI staff regarding disciplinary concerns. Take appropriate actions as outlined.
- On-call/Emergency Response: Serve as primary in-hall emergency contact for staff and students. Be available to respond to crisis situations and contact appropriate offices as needed. Consult with OAOA administrative staff as requested.
- Student Involvement: Maintain regular communication and visibility with SI students and student staff; serve as mediator and facilitator for individual or group problems that may arise. Consult with SI staff regarding conflicts within the community. Provide mentoring counseling and tutoring as needed.
- Program and Community Development: Support PM programmatic efforts; develop community and individual responsibility in the residential hall; lead visioning and implementation of Colloquium presentation at the close of Summer Institute.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with all SI program staff faculty and other appropriate College offices as needed. Additional duties may be assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have earned bachelors degree by employment start date
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- HEOP/CSTEP alum from Ithaca College or H/EOP alum from another institution
COMPENSATION:
This is a temporary position from June 8 August 2 2026.
Hiring rate is $1199.10/week for a total of $9593 for the length of the program plus full meal plan and on-campus housing.
