Job Summary

A large and well-established secondary academy in Birmingham is seeking a meticulous and experienced Senior Finance Officer to join its central operations team. This is a key role within a financially stable and well-managed school that places strong emphasis on accountability transparency and efficient resource management.

The school operates across a sizeable site with specialist teaching blocks sports facilities and a growing Sixth Form provision. Financial management is central to maintaining high standards and supporting ongoing investment in facilities and curriculum resources.

The leadership team works closely with the finance department to ensure careful budgeting robust procurement systems and compliance with academy financial regulations.


The Role

As Senior Finance Officer you will play a critical part in managing the schools day-to-day financial operations and supporting long-term financial planning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing purchase and sales ledgers

  • Processing invoices and supplier payments

  • Supporting monthly budget monitoring and reporting

  • Reconciling accounts and maintaining accurate financial records

  • Assisting with audit preparation and compliance documentation

  • Monitoring departmental spending against allocated budgets

The Finance Team

You will work as part of a structured and supportive operations team reporting to the School Business Manager. The finance office plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth procurement processes timely payments and clear financial oversight across departments.

Collaboration with curriculum leaders and external suppliers is a regular feature of the role.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous experience in a school finance or academy finance environment

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of financial processes and compliance

  • Be confident using accounting software and Excel
