Job Overview

Tekberry is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician III Cost Reduction to support our client a global leader in advanced materials and manufacturing technologies at their Newton facility.

This hands-on onsite role supports the Ribbon Cable Engineering team with a primary focus on process improvement capacity installations equipment debugging and cost reduction initiatives within high-speed manufacturing environments. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical fundamentals installation and startup experience and the ability to independently troubleshoot and optimize complex manufacturing equipment with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineering & Process Support

  • Lead and/or support manufacturing engineering projects focused on process improvements experimentation and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Support installation debugging and industrialization of manufacturing equipment related to ribboning buffering stranding and jacketing processes.
  • Design and implement mechanical solutions and process changes to improve equipment capability reliability and efficiency.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting diagnosis and repair of mechanical systems including hydraulics pneumatics conveyors motors pumps bearings and gear systems.
  • Align test and calibrate mechanical systems following installation or modification.

Equipment Installation & Debug

  • Support capacity additions and new equipment installations from startup through operations receivership.
  • Prepare manufacturing lines and associated parts for handoff to Operations.
  • Identify root causes of mechanical and process issues and implement robust industrialized solutions.

Collaboration & Vendor Support

  • Work closely with process engineers operations maintenance and quality teams to complete documentation troubleshooting guides and process improvements.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to resolve technical issues while protecting project scope timing and cost metrics.
  • Manage spare parts identification and storeroom entry recommendations across the two-plant footprint.

Continuous Improvement & Cost Reduction

  • Participate in daily scrap reduction and cost improvement activities.
  • Support data collection analysis and experimentation to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance safety efficiency and equipment performance.

Training Safety & Documentation

  • Maintain safe work practices and proactively communicate hazards or safety concerns.
  • Provide guidance and training to operators technicians and engineering team members.
  • Interpret and utilize blueprints schematics and technical manuals to support troubleshooting and repair.
  • Maintain records and documentation using basic computer systems and CMMS tools.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting new equipment installations in manufacturing environments (startup experience strongly preferred).
  • Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with hands-on troubleshooting capability.
  • Experience working in fast-paced changing environments with multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings schematics and blueprints.
  • Expertise in mechanical systems such as hydraulics pneumatics bearings gear systems and conveyors.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with commercial manufacturing equipment.
  • Project leadership or project coordination experience including milestone tracking.
  • Experience working directly with vendors and suppliers.
  • Exposure to CAD tools.
  • Relevant mechanical or industrial certifications (e.g. Millwright HVAC Welding).
  • OSHA or other industrial safety certifications.

  • Comfortable working under aggressive timelines and changing priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and accountability.

Work Environment & Travel

  • 100% onsite role in Newton NC.
  • Travel may be required between Newton NC and Hickory NC project locations.
  • Combination of hands-on equipment work and technical documentation.
  • Overtime and periodic off-hours coverage may be required based on project timing.
