West Island School is seeking aFull-Time Teacher of Physics on a two-year contract startingAugust 2026 renewable by mutual agreement. We are looking for an innovative and dedicated teacher who can inspire students in physics and foster a strong interest in STEM subjects while collaborating with colleagues across the Faculty of Science including Biology Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) and Chemistry.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging lessons in Science education for students across various age groups following the MYP iGCSE and IBDP curricula.
• Develop and implement coursework that aligns with these programs focusing on key concepts practical applications and scientific inquiry.
• Collaborate with colleagues in the Faculty of Science and Design Technology to create integrated learning experiences that enhance students understanding of physics in real-world contexts.
• Assess and evaluate student progress in line with program expectations providing constructive feedback to support their growth.
• Utilise inquiry-based learning strategies and current technologies to foster student engagement and understanding of physics concepts.

Expectations

• Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and continuous learning within the teaching team.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.
• Utilise the exceptional resources and facilities available to maximise student potential

Pastoral Care

• Serve as a form tutor/home room teacher to a group of approximately 30 students supporting their holistic development through pastoral work.

Extra-Curricular Contributions

• Actively participate in extra-curricular events and activities either through personal interests or in support of student-led initiatives.

Educational Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Education or a relevant subject with a PGCE or PGDE (Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma of Education) or equivalent.
• Willingness to teach other subjects within the STEM curriculum including Design Technology and other science subjects.
• Strong commitment to inclusion and effective differentiation in teaching.
• Evidence of involvement in extra-curricular programs.
• Newly Qualified Teachers are encouraged to apply provided they meet the majority of the requirements.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience teaching at different educational levels including MYP iGCSE and IB.
• Familiarity with inquiry-based teaching methods and the integration of technology in physics education including data analysis and simulation tools.
• Knowledge of current trends in STEM and their application in the physics classroom such as the use of AI for modelling and analysis.
