As one of Queenslands earliest nature-based tourist destinations the Sanctuary is a physical embodiment of everything the NTAQ represents: to protect conserve and celebrate the Environmental Built and Cultural heritage of our State.
As we continue to welcome visitors and share our stories with visitors students and team members we are seeking a First Nations Education & Engagement Officer to join our team in a part-time capacity with the opportunity for this role to be expanded to full-time based on organisational priorities and projects.
About the Role
Reporting to the Education Manager the First Nations Education Officer will deliver educational programs and engage with community through school visits outreach programs community courses school holiday programs and representation at community events. The immediate focus of the role is the delivery of First Nations cultural education across audiences ranging from pre-school to tertiary level.
As a passionate and engaging educator you will connect with students visitors and community to deliver storytelling grounded in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and Australian wildlife conservation. Knowledge of local cultural protocols and Traditional Knowledge is highly desirable.
In addition to education delivery this role presents a development opportunity to contribute to the ongoing delivery and progression of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and RAP Committee activities for both Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and National Trust Queensland.
This work will be undertakenin conjunction with internal leaders and key stakeholders with mentoring and support provided. The focus of this component of the role will be on building strong internal and external relationships connecting with community and helping to develop authentic tangible actions that support reconciliation across our organisation teams and broader community.
About You
To be successful in this role you must have a connection to and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and be able to deliver the content of this role. This is an Identified Position due to the nature of the work and the delivery of First Nations education programs.
