Job Summary

WHATS THE JOB

The Tree Assessor plays a critical role in maintaining high standards of tree planting quality. This position ensures that every planting site meets or exceeds client specifications through systematic quality checks and accurate documentation. Responsibilities include tracking quality data by planter block and operating area and delivering clear timely reports. Success in this role requires meeting daily plot targets upholding safety protocols and demonstrating attention to detail organizational ability and a strong commitment to operational safety. 

Quality Oversight 

  • Ensure work meets or exceeds client contract and company quality standards 
  • Act as a consistent and credible quality authority in the field 
  • Reinforce the link between quality productivity and safety 

Field Assessments & Audits 

  • Conduct regular field quality checks and audits according to client requirements and map appropriately.  
  • Meet or exceed the required number of plots per day and ensure systematic sampling methods are followed.  
  • Verify compliance with prescriptions maps specs and planting standards (or equivalent) 
  • Identify deficiencies trends and recurring quality issues 
  • Provide clear timely feedback to supervisors and crews 

Stock Handling & Care 

  • Verify proper handling transport storage and protection of stock/seedlings 
  • Ensure stock is maintained within required temperature moisture and handling standards 
  • Monitor cache setup handling practices and daily stock management 
  • Support corrective actions related to stock damage loss or improper handling 

Coaching & Training 

  • Coach crews on quality expectations and best practices 
  • Support onboarding and refresher training related to quality and stock handling 
  • Reinforce correct techniques through observation and hands-on feedback 

Documentation & Reporting 

  • Accurately document quality assessments findings and corrective actions 
  • Track quality metrics and trends 
  • Prepare clear professional reports for operations and client. 
  • Ensure quality data is complete timely and defensible 

Corrective Actions & Follow-Up 

  • Work with supervisors to develop and implement corrective action plans 
  • Verify corrective actions are completed and effective 
  • Escalate persistent or systemic quality issues as required 

Collaboration & Client Support 

  • Support client inspections audits and site visits 
  • Communicate professionally regarding quality findings 
  • Work closely with Operations Safety and Management teams 
  • Represent company quality standards in a solutions-focused manner 

Safety Leadership  

  • Perform daily Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) and ensure corrective actions are implemented immediately.  
  • Ensure all required PPE is worn and in good condition; replace as needed.  
  • Participate in safety meetings and emergency preparedness drills.  
  • Report hazards incidents and near misses promptly according to company policy.  

Qualifications :

WHATS THE JOB

  • Experience in forestry operations tree planting or quality assessment is an asset. 
  • Valid First Aid Certification (mandatory). 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work and live in remote outdoor environments and variable weather conditions. 
  • Physically fit and able to conduct field assessments in rugged terrain. 
  • Familiarity with GPS and data collection tools for plot sampling and reporting. 
  • Valid drivers license with a clean abstract (required if driving duties are assigned); ability to operate ATVs safely with proper certification.
