Job Summary

The Clinical Director is responsible for providing day-to-day clinical leadership and oversight of all patient care services within the hospital. Working closely with the Medical Director the role ensures the delivery of safe high-quality compliant and patient-centered care while driving clinical governance operational efficiency and continuous quality improvement.

The Clinical Director balances clinical practice with administrative leadership supports hospital strategy execution and ensures optimal coordination among clinical teams to achieve the hospitals clinical operational and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care

  • Supervise physicians nurses laboratory scientists pharmacists and other clinical staff to ensure effective and safe patient care delivery.

  • Participate in and lead quality improvement initiatives identifying opportunities to enhance patient care outcomes and safety.

  • Organize coordinate and oversee all patient care operations and clinical programs.

  • Act as a liaison between patients their families and the healthcare team to ensure continuity and satisfaction of care.

  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

Clinical Governance & Compliance

  • Oversee the hospitals clinical governance framework and ensure compliance with all legal ethical and professional standards.

  • Ensure all medical records clinical documentation and hospital records are accurate current and compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor compliance with NHIS guidelines accreditation standards and relevant healthcare regulations.

  • Review physician visits and clinical documentation to ensure accurate coding billing and reimbursement.

Operational & Administrative Management

  • Support the Medical Director in the day-to-day clinical and operational management of the hospital.

  • Participate in and lead provider and multidisciplinary care team meetings.

  • Work closely with pharmacy and laboratory managers to address operational and service delivery concerns.

  • Design and implement clinical and operational strategies to support the hospitals business and growth objectives.

  • Ensure all clinical departments are adequately staffed with qualified and competent personnel.

Human Resource Management & Capacity Development

  • Assist with recruitment mentoring onboarding and orientation of new clinical staff.

  • Conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews providing structured feedback to support staff development and motivation.

  • Promote a culture of continuous professional development accountability and clinical excellence.

Financial & Resource Management

  • Participate in planning and managing the clinics budget ensuring efficient use of resources and cost control.

  • Support resource allocation decisions aligned with clinical priorities and service demand.

Clinical Practice & Representation

  • Balance administrative responsibilities with active clinical consultant duties within area of specialization.

  • Serve as a key point of coordination between clinical teams management and other stakeholders.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

  • MBBS or MBChB degree.

  • Fellowship qualification (FWACS FWACP or equivalent).

  • Current Annual Practicing Licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years post-fellowship clinical experience.

  • At least 3 years in a senior medical leadership or hospital administrative role.

  • Proven experience in clinical governance quality improvement and patient safety.

  • Experience in budget planning and resource management.

  • Prior experience within the private healthcare sector is required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical expertise and sound medical judgment.

  • Excellent leadership people-management and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Ability to design and implement hospital policies protocols and strategies.

  • Financial acumen and experience with budgeting and cost control.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and hospital information systems.

  • Project and change management capability.

  • Strong understanding of NHIS operations and healthcare regulatory compliance.
