Job Summary
The Director of Finance is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership oversight and control across the hospitals financial operations. The role ensures financial sustainability regulatory compliance sound financial planning and effective financial reporting to support executive decision-making and long-term organizational growth.
Working closely with the Medical Director CFO COO and Board of Directors the Director of Finance will oversee budgeting forecasting financial analysis internal controls and statutory compliance while leading a high-performing finance team and strengthening financial governance across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee the preparation of accurate timely and compliant financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards.
Lead budgeting forecasting cash flow management and financial performance analysis.
Ensure effective general ledger management accounts payable and receivable functions and financial reconciliations.
Provide periodic financial reports dashboards and insights to senior management and the Board of Directors.
Strategic Financial Planning
Participate in the development and execution of financial strategies long-term financial plans and investment decisions.
Support hospital growth initiatives through robust financial modeling cost-benefit analysis and resource planning.
Provide financial input into operational and strategic decision-making processes.
Risk Management Controls & Compliance
Identify assess and mitigate financial risks through strong internal controls and governance frameworks.
Ensure full compliance with statutory regulatory and tax obligations including PAYE Pension NSITF ITF and other relevant requirements.
Support internal and external audit processes and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
Budgeting & Cost Control
Develop manage and monitor departmental and hospital-wide budgets.
Track budget performance and implement cost control measures to optimize financial efficiency without compromising service quality.
Partner with department heads to support financial discipline and accountability.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead mentor and develop the finance team fostering a positive ethical and high-performance work environment.
Build finance team capacity through coaching training and performance management.
Promote best practices in financial management and reporting across the organization.
Stakeholder & Executive Support
Provide financial guidance and advisory support to senior management and the Board.
Collaborate with the CFO and COO on operational and financial planning initiatives.
Support transparency and effective communication of financial performance to key stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Economics or a related discipline.
Masters degree in Finance or a related field is an added advantage.
Professional accounting certification (ACA) is an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 15 years professional experience with at least 5 years in a senior financial management role.
Prior experience working within a hospital or healthcare environment is a strong advantage.
Proven track record in financial management strategic planning and leadership.
Hands-on experience with Hyella software is required.
Skills & Competencies
Strong analytical financial modeling and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Sound understanding of financial regulations accounting principles and statutory compliance.
Proficiency in financial software ERP systems and Microsoft Office tools.
High level of integrity attention to detail and accountability.
