Reflecting the vision and aims of Change Grow Live Hepatitis C StrategyWe have an exciting opportunity for a Blood Borne Virus Specialist Intervention Worker. The post holder will actively promote and undertake the delivery of effective interventions for hepatitis C hepatitis B & HIV (BBVs) across the service using a whole system approach.

No two days are the same and we treat every person who comes into our service as an individual so being flexible curious and a good listener are key.

Where: Manchester

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week

Full Time Salary*: 27861.26 - 32002.35 (based on full time hours pro rata for part time)

Contract Type: Permanent

*Please Note: Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

Responsibilities

About the role:

There is an expectation that the post-holder will provide a degree of flexibility and contribute to the wider strategic aims and on-going development of Blood Born Virus treatment pathways. The focus of all interventions will be:

  • To reduce drug related harm to the individual and wider community. Ensuring harm reduction remains the focus of all models of care.
  • To actively seek out service users at risk of contracting Blood Born Viruses and offer harm reduction advice alongside screening.
  • To actively promote Workforce development (to increase testing across the service by cultivating and nurturing confidence in all volunteers peer mentors and staff). Creating a culture of change within the service which allows staff to fully embrace the service Hep C strategy to achieve sustainable hepatitis C micro elimination.
  • To actively encourage and support those with a BBV diagnosis to engage with their local NHS Trust treatment pathway and attend their appointments.
  • To be an active advocate for the service to joint work with partner agencies such as NHS The Hep C trust and/or the Terrence Higgins Trust also any offer supports a persons may benefit from with engaging with their BBV treatment pathway experience.
  • To support the NHS Hepatology nurse with the Hep C clinic (face to face and remote clinics) and ensure the recording of treatment interventions is accurate.
  • To actively use collation of data to support on-going surveillance of at-risk populations.
  • To contribute to the development of innovative models of BBV treatments that reflects local nuances and diversity.
  • To actively liaise with service user groups to drive prevention and promote BBV testing & treatments.
  • To Support peer and service user involvement to deliver health education and health protection relating to BBVs.
  • To assist in case finding for people currently in service who have a positive BBV diagnoses or people who require re testing due to continued high risk practice.
  • Would be willing to be trained to develop and practice new skills as the role requires. This may include such task as taking of wet bloods liver fibro scanning and carrying out assessment on Hep C PCR patients and presenting cases at NHS Trust MDTs.

Key Activities:

  • Single Point of Contact when required for peer mentors volunteers staff and other professionals.
  • Ensuring local systems are in place to meet all data requirements.
  • Ensuring robust systems are in place for all clients to be BBV tested
  • Ensuring that BBV pathways are in place throughout the service from point of offering DBST to treatment for hep B & C and HIV.
  • Ensuring service frameworks and mechanicians are robust allowing the aim of local BBV strategy to be a core deliverable of the service.
  • Most appropriate level of service provision.

About you:

  • To work closely with the Change Grow Live Southwark teams National Hepatitis C Team and others where applicable as directed & agreed by your line manager.
  • To assist in workforce development to increase the knowledge skills and
    competencies of staff to deliver hepatitis B & C and HIV provision.
    To work closely with the Hepatology nurses delivering treatment on site and/or remotely.
  • To encourage all known individuals with a positive BBV diagnosis to attend their HIV/Hepatology appointments and ensure they are linked with other available support (e.g. Terrence Higgins Trust and/or The Hep C Trust)
  • To undertake data collection relating to hepatitis C performance supported by the service & national Hep C data analysts.
  • To be present at local team meetings including service user forums when applicable inclusive of any external BBV forums locally.
  • To adopt a harm reduction approach with leads in service to promote
    prevention early intervention testing and treatment.
  • To work collaboratively with service user groups and peer mentors to drive forward the transformational benefits of hepatitis testing prevention and treatment to service users.
  • To lead on any events that may increase testing for the service e.g. World Hepatitis Day
  • To work closely with the service leads on the development and delivery of embedding sustained culture change that embraces the service and its BBV ambitions for continued growth of service user positive outcomes into the future.
  • To offer and conduct either onsite in service or off-site face to face BBV testing & interventions with service users.
  • To work at all times in accordance to change grow live COVID-19 & all other infection control & safety measures. Person Specification Essential / Desirable
  • To hold a suitable qualification or life experience.
