Human Resources Manager

Location: United States (Multi-State Workforce)
Work Model: Hybrid 4 days onsite / 1 day remote
Reports To: Vice President
Compensation: $60000 $70000 annually

This role serves as the sole HR position within the company making it a critical leadership and trust function. The ideal individual will be both approachable and authoritative capable of supporting employees while confidently enforcing policies procedures and compliance requirements.


Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager who is personable grounded and highly competent. This individual will act as the primary point of contact for all HR matters balancing employee advocacy with company compliance and operational needs.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Clear and concise when explaining payroll benefits policies and performance processes

  • Comfortable being firm when necessary

  • Resourceful and proactive in independently finding answers

Because this is a standalone HR role 35 years of hands-on HR experience is required.


Core Responsibilities

Payroll & Compensation

  • Submit bi-weekly payroll bonuses quarterly payroll and reconciliations

  • Manage payroll within Paylocity or a comparable HRIS

  • Clearly explain paycheck calculations deductions and taxes to employees

  • Update tax withholdings and ensure payroll tax compliance across multiple states

  • Coordinate multi-state payroll tax accounts and filings

  • Lead annual compensation review processes including merit increases and bonus coordination

Performance Management

  • Own and manage the annual performance review cycle

  • Partner with leadership to ensure fair consistent and well-documented evaluations

  • Support managers in delivering clear and professional performance feedback

  • Align performance outcomes with compensation decisions and company goals

Hiring & Onboarding (End-to-End)

  • Manage the full hiring and onboarding lifecycle including:

    • Partnering with managers on job descriptions and postings

    • Screening candidates and supporting interviews

    • Assisting with interview structure and evaluation

    • Drafting and issuing offer letters

    • Guiding new hires through onboarding

    • Ensuring completion of all compliance and onboarding requirements

Employee Relations

  • Advise managers on employee relations conduct and performance concerns

  • Guide leadership on compliant handling of employee matters

  • Ensure consistent application of company policies and procedures

Benefits Administration

  • Explain benefits clearly and answer detailed employee questions

  • Draft internal and external benefits materials and summaries

  • Lead annual benefits renewals and vendor negotiations

Reporting Vendors & Operations

  • Generate and manage HR reports and workforce metrics

  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of people data

  • Manage relationships with HR-related vendors and partners

  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned external HR vendors

Compliance & Risk

  • Process employee terminations professionally and compliantly

  • Manage workers compensation administration

  • Support compliance for a distributed multi-state workforce

Communication & Culture

  • Provide timely clear communication to employees and partners

  • Coordinate company events and employee appreciation initiatives

  • Support and protect company culture while maintaining professional boundaries


Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required (Human Resources or related field preferred)

  • 35 years of HR experience ideally in a standalone or high-ownership role

  • Experience with Paylocity or similar HRIS

  • Strong knowledge of payroll benefits performance management and employment compliance

  • Experience supporting employees across multiple U.S. states

  • Highly resourceful and comfortable identifying external solutions when needed

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
