GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB
The Senior Engineer provides safe Best for Project solutions for complex projects while ensuring regulatory compliance across all engineering deliverables. This role is responsible for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams; completing reviewing and securely storing all required calculations; maintaining knowledge of applicable codes and standards; reviewing engineering deliverables for adherence to the scope of work; planning and monitoring quality assurance requirements; checking and stamping the work of EITs; performing peer reviews; and maintaining and continuously improving technical skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Work in compliance with all Cementation Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Identify health and safety hazards or infractions and report them to the Health and Safety Department.
- Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met through appropriate design and use of technology.
- Act as a safety champion by promoting safe behaviours and integrating safety into all designs produced by the group.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- This description outlines the core responsibilities and duties of the position. Additional duties deemed to be within the incumbents capabilities may be assigned by management on an asrequired basis.
- Provide mechanical engineering group levelofeffort estimates in support of proposal submissions.
- Attend technical conferences as requested representing Cementations capabilities and participating in seminars to further Cementations technical knowledge.
- Participate in marketing or bid meetings as required to respond to questions related to project scope or Cementations technical capabilities.
- Collaborate with Project Services and Operations to produce Best for Project designs that are safe constructible and prioritize the clients operability requirements.
- Actively contribute to the development of Intermediate Engineers and EngineersinTraining by providing technical direction and mentorship.
- As a subjectmatter expert in the engineering software used by the group identify and support the groups software and hardware needs including monitoring and maintaining software interoperability.
- Regularly review state-of-the-art software and hardware industry developments identifying opportunities and mitigating risks to ensure long-term technical capability and viability.
- Lead the development of off-the-shelf design projects.
- Lead the maintenance and development of departmental standards as assigned ensuring conformance with applicable codes standards and mining regulations.
- As assigned develop implement and maintain discipline-specific standards including specifications design basis and criteria templates design spreadsheets workflow procedures and change management forms.
- Provide direction and supervision to Engineers-in-Training including technical review of work verification of compliance with company and regulatory standards codes and regulations and approval and stamping of their work.
- Participate in mechanical engineering group recruiting efforts by interviewing and assessing candidates.
- In collaboration with other Discipline Leads and in alignment with project requirements prepare Scope of Work technical descriptions for procurement packages including references to applicable design documents.
- Identify long-lead procurement items understand current industry delivery periods and develop the required technical and scope-of-work documentation in collaboration with the Procurement Team to support timely issuance of procurement packages and adherence to project schedules.
- Provide technical assistance during tender periods including responding to vendor questions evaluating vendor submissions and recommending preferred or winning bidders.
- Provide technical assistance during the fabrication and manufacturing phases by supporting the Procurement Team with technical input to ensure compliance with Client and project requirements.
- As required attend design review meetings and respond to questions related to design basis and design criteria.
- At the conceptual stage make recommendations on the basic type or style of systems (mechanical or electrical equipment or structures) and collaborate with Designers to pre-select designs from Cementations existing project portfolio.
- Collaborate with Designers to define drawing layouts and presentation standards to ensure that engineering requirements are clearly and effectively conveyed.
- Select mechanical systems components equipment completing all necessary calculations to ensure compliance with applicable codes standards regulations industry guidelines and company and Client standards.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure that the system meets its fundamental functional requirements and can be safely efficiently and reliably operated and maintained.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure regulatory compliance safety and Client operability and maintainability requirements are met.
- Collaborate with Operations to confirm that the plant can be constructed in the safest most efficient and most costeffective manner possible.
- Participate in risk assessments at various project phases identifying and mitigating risks that are deemed unacceptable.
- At various project phases perform timely reviews and mark-ups of drawings coordinating with other disciplines Project Management Project Services Operations Designers and Quality to facilitate efficient reviews and ensure compliance with engineering design calculations codes standards and regulations.
- Complete code and calculation self-checks.
- Conduct technical peer reviews of other engineers designs and calculations as required to ensure Best for Project solutions adherence to best industry practices and compliance with applicable codes standards regulations and Cementation and Client standards.
- Prepare technical reports related to trade-off studies and other assigned engineering reports in a clear professional and effective manner.
- During construction assess field enquiries and provide timely technical recommendations and responses.
- When providing field solutions understand and enforce change management principles utilize Cementation standard forms and ensure that project scope budget and schedule are always respected.
- During project close-out ensure that all applicable regulatory Cementation and Client requirements have been satisfied and provide the necessary close-out documentation.
- Ensure that project deliverables including drawings and specifications accurately reflect as-built conditions and that as-built (record) drawings are issued. Where required apply due diligence and change management principles to complete engineering design checks and verify that all changes comply with regulatory Cementation and Client requirements.
- Conduct quality assurance shop and on-site reviews of fabricated and constructed work to verify that quality control measures have delivered work in compliance with regulatory Cementation and Client requirements.
- Complete general reviews of erection and shop drawings to verify compliance with project requirements and adequate coordination at interfaces with vendor-supplied items and Cementation-designed components.
- Prepare and issue shop and on-site review reports including observations and recommendations and follow up as required to ensure that all recommendations have been satisfactorily addressed.
- Throughout the fabrication and construction phases actively participate in verifying that all tests inspections and measurements required by regulation or by the Engineer-of-Record have been completed and satisfactorily met.
- Other duties as assigned.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- This position has the requirement for occasional travel to our project sites and offices.
- Travel period may range from one day to several weeks.
- Travel may include overseas assignments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Has no direct reports however will direct oversee check and stamp the work of EITs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree or equivalent accredited by Professional Engineers Ontario or other Canadian Professional Engineering body.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario or other Canadian Professional Engineering body.
- Previous relevant work experience in Mining or Heavy Construction.
- Minimum 7 to 15 years of relevant experience
