Job Summary

Job Title:- Google VMware Engineer

Location :-Remote

Mode: Contract

The Level 2 VMware vSphere Operations Administrator is responsible for supporting and maintaining the organizations virtual infrastructure. The role focuses on day to day operations incident resolution monitoring and routine maintenance of VMware vSphere environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Daily Operations & Monitoring

  • Monitor vCenter ESXi hosts clusters and virtual machines for performance or availability issues.
  • Perform Level 2 troubleshooting for host VM and vCenter incidents.
  • Respond to alerts raised by monitoring tools (vROps SolarWinds Nagios etc.).
  • Manage VM lifecycle tasks: provisioning modification de provisioning.

2. Incident & Problem Management

  • Investigate and resolve issues related to:
  • VM performance (CPU memory disk latency).
  • ESXi host connectivity or hardware alerts.
  • vMotion/DRS failures HA restarts snapshot issues.
  • Escalate complex issues to Level 3/engineering teams when needed.

3. vSphere Platform Maintenance

  • Apply standard changes like:
  • Adding/removing datastores.
  • Updating VMware Tools and VM hardware versions.
  • Managing snapshots and templates.
  • Assist with ESXi host patching upgrades and maintenance mode activities.

4. Storage & Network Support (L2 Scope)

  • Troubleshoot datastore connectivity issues (VMFS/NFS).
  • Validate host networking settings (vSwitch/vDS) VLAN issues and NIC health.
  • Work with network/storage teams for cross domain issues.

5. Backup & Restore Operations

  • Perform VM restores and backup validation (Veeam Commvault etc.).
  • Monitor backup job failures and coordinate resolutions.

6. Security & Compliance Tasks

  • Maintain user access permissions and roles within vCenter.
  • Follow host hardening guidelines and ensure patch compliance.
  • Support audit and compliance reporting.

7. Documentation & Reporting

  • Update incident logs RCA notes and knowledge base articles.
  • Document changes maintenance activities and inventory updates.
  • Generate routine health and capacity reports.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

Hands on experience with VMware vSphere 6.x/7.x/8.x.

Good knowledge of:

  • vCenter ESXi
  • HA DRS vMotion
  • Snapshots templates VM monitoring
  • NSX Troubleshooting
  • vSAN Troubleshooting
  • Understanding of SAN/NAS storage (LUN presentation VMFS/NFS basics).
  • Familiarity with vSphere networking (vSwitch/vDS VLANs).
  • Basic scripting skills (PowerCLI/PowerShell) are a plus.
  • Experience with backup/restore tools.

Soft Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Experience

  • 3 8 years of experience in VMware vSphere operations or infrastructure support.
