Job Summary
Serves as a nurse in the Radiation Therapy Department. Will act as a resource person to both in and out patients providing quality nursing care and involvement in all phases of treatment convalescence rehabilitation and follow-up of patient.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform intake/consultation of new patients conduct initial comprehensive nurse assessment lab draws selected diagnosis code as well as develop implement and provide patient education for the process of radiation treatment and interventional/diagnostic procedures specific to each patients diagnosis.
- Perform follow up/weekly on-treatment visits for patients under external beam radiation and monitor/notify the physician of adverse effects redevelopment of processes and onset of worsening symptoms.
- Perform telephone triage regarding patients health concerns treatment diagnostic tests medications side effects and prioritized patient care needs.
- Updates medical records as necessary. Documents patient condition to the specifications required to meet policies and procedures.
- Review patient charts and diagnostic reports to ensure that the required documentation is available for physicians review to administer radiotherapy.
- Create a patient-focused environment with treatment plans and surveillance enhancing and empowering the patient to live a high quality of life. Ensures that patient rights are identified and met for every patient.
- Coordinate with other medical professionals within an interdisciplinary team and work collaboratively with other team members to achieve desired outcomes.
- Work within PC and networked computer applications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program.
- Preferred: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) designation
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: 2 years experience in the Oncology setting and a working knowledge of cancer patient care
License/Certification Requirements
- State Issued License - Yes
- CPR - Yes
