Desk officer for UK-NATO EA2 and counter-Russia strat dev under the Global Integration Plan.
Coordinate NATO-facing high-level international engagement for CDS and DCDS(MSO). Regular 2* engagement.
This is a most demanding post requiring a strong appreciation of strategic leadership grand strategy HMG policy and the pressures and constraints faced by Mil Cmds. High EQ is essential for working effectively across government and within a joint mil-Civil Service environment. The role demands sound judgement excellent communication skills and the ability to brief senior military and civilian leaders including Ministers. It would particularly suit someone with a NATO pedigree and familiarity with SHAPE JFC or UKDel processes. The post requires a self-starter operating in ambiguity and prioritising a heavy fast-moving workload.
Job Considerations
- Role may require long hours weekend crisis work and short-notice operational or conference/meeting travel across the EuroAtlantic area.

- Must be within commuting distance of MOD Main Building. Periodic 2-hour on-call duties. Not currently on VCDS 45-min list.

- This is a high-impact strategic appt suited to candidates with NATO experience and strong grasp of UK defence policy. Familiarity with NATO and x-WH working is advantageous. Role includes crisis response strat dev & Minister-level engagement. Would suit post-OF3/Sub-Unit Cmd.

| 1 | Develop UK-NATO EA2 and c-Russia strategy development under the Global Integration Plan shaping long-term Defence posture. |
| 2 | Provide UK desk-level contributions to NATO strategic planning including SHAPE and UKDel coordination planning conferences and estimates. |
| 3 | Provide strategic military advice to senior MOD leaders and Ministers particularly on NATO Russia and EuroAtlantic defence issues. |
| 4 | Draft MOD outputs including CDS Directives and MinSubs ensuring alignment with UK Defence policy and NATO planning cycles. |
| 5 | Coordinate NATO-facing high-level international engagement representing UK Defence in strategic fora and planning processes. |
| 6 | Consult with PJHQ sS and other commands to translate strategic direction into coherent planning and operational directives. |
| 7 | Contribute to cross-Whitehall strategic effects and Defence crisis response including short-notice taskings and out-of-hours support. |
| 8 | Manage relationships with allies and partners engaging daily with SHAPE JFC UKDel and Defence Attachés to reinforce UK strategic aims. |
