Job Summary

About the Role

The Therapeutic Support Specialist (HSB Focus) provides specialist therapeutic support to children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse and/or who are displaying concerning or harmful sexual behaviours (HSB) as well as to their families and support networks.

Working as part of Parkervilles Multi-Agency Investigation and Support Team (MIST) the role contributes to an integrated trauma-informed culturally responsive service that prioritises safety early intervention coordinated responses and long-term recovery.

What Youll Do:

  • Provide developmentally tailored therapeutic assessment and intervention for children and young people aged 417.
  • Support non-offending parents and carers to understand behaviours reduce risk and strengthen protective capacity.
  • Deliver specialist consultation to internal staff and partner agencies in the understanding assessment and treatment of HSB.
  • Contribute to service development through training reflective practice and embedding the Harmful Sexual Behaviour Practice Framework into daily practice.

The position plays a key part in reducing stigma preventing re-traumatisation improving family functioning and ensuring safer long-term outcomes.

This position is offered on a fixed-term full-time basis at various locations: Midland Armadale Northam Mirrabooka and Rockingham. The role will commence as soon as possible and last for three years.

  • The successful candidate for this role will hold:

    • Relevant degree (Psychology Counselling Social Work Occupational Therapy) or equivalent training in evidence-based practices.
    • Experience providing therapeutic support to children and families affected by trauma sexual abuse or harmful sexual behaviours (HSB).
    • Knowledge of HSB assessment safety planning and treatment approaches.
    • Skilled in working systemically with families and supporting parents in distress.
    • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and the impacts of complex trauma on child development.
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders.
    • Strong organisational report-writing and time-management skills; able to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Commitment to culturally safe and inclusive practice with experience working with Aboriginal children
