We are presently accepting resumes for a number ofYouth Worker Summer Studentto assist youth with an intellectual disability or complex needs to engage with their peers in a social setting: to assist the Youth Engagement Facilitator with planning and implementation of activities and programs; to lead a small group of youths with disabilities in a variety of community social recreational and work activities.

This is a full-time position until August 31 2026. This position works 30 hours per week (Monday to Thursday) with an hourly rate of pay of $21.43. Please note that this position is contingent upon funding approval through the Federal Government Canada Summer Jobs program.

There is a potential for extension of employment 1-2 evenings per week following the Summer to support Empower Simcoes weekly Youth Program from September to June excluding planned school closures.

Minimum requirements of this position include:

  • Completion of secondary school and enrolled in post-secondary education; social services or related field preferred
  • Previous experience working with children and youth; previous experience with youth with exceptionalities is preferred; recreation camping or mediator experience an asset
  • A valid class G drivers license and reliable transportation is an asset
  • Current valid certificates in CPR and First Aid would be considered an asset

Overview of Duties (including but not limited to):

  • Program implementation and delivery
  • Following the overall outline and plan for each session providing leadership to a small group of youth to enable them to participate in the outlined program
  • Identifying with each youth in the group their individual goals and expectations and developing a plan to assist the youth in obtaining those goals within the structure of the program
  • Following the overall goals of the program
  • Promoting inclusion through:
    • interaction with the youth
    • fostering healthy relationships amongst the group members and between group members and their peers and/or community members
    • modelling and promoting appropriate social and communication skills
    • supporting youth to participate in various community activities
  • Assisting the Youth Program Facilitator to develop plans for the Youth program
  • Fostering independence by using each activity and interaction as an opportunity to teach new skills
  • Teaching appropriate social work and volunteer skills
  • Administering medication as outlined in each participants individual medication direction form
  • Documenting supports provided
  • Conversing with families/caregivers and updating care plans as appropriate
  • Participating in camp experiences with youth as scheduled and .
  • Financial monitoring
    • Managing team expenditures on a week to week basis
    • Completing weekly expenditure sheets
  • Personnel planning and supervision
  • Participating in orientation and training sessions
  • Completing daily and weekly activity reports and attendance
  • Participating in team meetings and
  • Participating in performance and program appraisals as .
