The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for AEA Stage Managers. CATF a LORT D (LOA) summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays per season in multiple venues. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community. Located 90 minutes from DC CATF makes its home in one of Americas coolest small towns Shepherdstown WV.
CATF typically produces five plays in three venues with two of those venues performing 2 shows in rotating repertory. Each production has its own Stage Management team the size of which varies by the venue and complexity of the production; typical teams are 2-3 people (SM and an ASM and/or PA). A Production Stage Manager (already hired) supervises the Stage Management Department along with their own show assignment.
Ideal candidates will have experience working on new plays (particularly world premieres) and some experience working in a repertory environment (although not all venues perform in rep). The festivals dedication to incubating new work can mean script and design adjustments throughout the build and tech process. CATF values those who are able to collaborate toward practical and artistically-sound solutions in a time-sensitive environment. Flexibility and positivity are key.
Contract dates vary by production but are generally:
Prep Week: June 2-7
First Rehearsal: June 9
Tech Begins: June 28 or June 30 (based on show)
Previews: July 5-10 (based on show each show has 2 scheduled previews)
Opening: July 10-11
Closing: August 2 (all shows)
Most rehearsals will take place in Shepherdstown WV although some shows may partially rehearse in New York. These details will be discussed as part of the interview process.
