The Division of Social Medicine within the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Grant Tenure Track). The successful candidate will hold the Diamond Family Professorship in Addiction Medicine and Recovery subject to university approvals. This position will be located at Providence Health Care and the successful candidate will be a member of and based out of the British Columbia Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU).

The BCCSU is a provincially networked organization with a mandate to develop help implement and evaluate evidence-based approaches to substance use and dependence. As a University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine Centre the BCCSUs vision is to transform substance use policies and care in the province by translating research into education and evidence-based care guidance. By supporting the collaborative development of evidence-based policies guidelines and standards the BCCSU seeks to improve the integration of best practices and care across the continuum of substance use thereby serving all British Columbians. The BCCSU seeks to achieve these goals through integrated activities of its three core functions: research and evaluation education and training and clinical care guidance.
Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Medicine through the Head of the Division of Social Medicine the successful candidate will be an addiction medicine specialist who will be responsible for the development and implementation of an internationally recognized program of research in addiction medicine with a focus on clinical research on recovery-based approaches for people living with substance use disorders. The incumbent will synthesize research findings into recommendations for evidence-based clinical care guidelines for supporting treatment and recovery for patients living with substance use disorders. They will develop and implement a robust knowledge-translation program to ensure the translation of real-world evidence into policy practice and develop and deliver education on innovations and evidence-based best practice in addiction care. They will be expected to lead an independent research program participate in undergraduate graduate and postgraduate teaching activities and to provide service within the Division and Department the University and both the academic and broader community.
The successful candidate will have an MD or equivalent degree have completed subspeciality training in Internal Medicine and/or Addiction Medicine and must be eligible to be licensed to practice as a general internist in British Columbia. The incumbent will also have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and scholarly activity clinical leadership in an addiction medicine clinical environment as well as demonstrated potential to become an international leader in the area of addiction medicine and recovery. The incumbent must also have a strong background of clinical research into substance use addiction and recovery. Candidates with formal training in addiction medicine (e.g. clinical fellowship) and research (e.g. research fellowship or equivalent) will be given addition the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives including perspectives in conflict with their own and a commitment to enhancing their own awareness knowledge and skills related to equity diversity and inclusion.
The expected salary for this position is $125K-$135K per annum.
