About the role:
The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the development implementation and maintenance of the companys safety policies and procedures. This role works closely with the Safety Director to promote a culture of safety throughout the organization by providing technical expertise ensuring regulatory compliance and assisting with safety training and audits. The Safety Specialist will serve as a resource for all stakeholders offering support and guidance on all matters related to environment health and safety.
Principal accountabilities:
- Assist in the development review and implementation of safety policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
- Perform routine inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate controls.
- Support the coordination and facilitation of safety training programs such as First Aid CPR Bloodborne Pathogens and proper handling of chemicals.
- Maintain records of safety inspections accident investigations and other compliance documentation including the OSHA 300 log.
- Assist with the investigation of workplace incidents to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Provide guidance to employees and management on best practices for maintaining a safe work environment.
- Collaborate with the Safety Director and HR in managing the Workers Compensation Program including accident prevention and return-to-work programs.
- Participate in the organizations Safety Committee and contribute to the ongoing improvement of safety culture.
- Stay informed of updates to local state and federal safety regulations and ensure company policies are aligned with these changes.
- Assist with the preparation of safety reports and provide updates to the Safety Director on the status of safety initiatives.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education training or experience
- Working knowledge of health safety and environmental management practices and interpretation of OHSA and Workers Compensation regulations.
- 2 years experience in safety management safety coordination safety engineering and/or risk management in a relevant industry.
- CSP CIH ARM and CHST certifications preferred.
