Job Summary

The role:

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with an interest in pursuing a career in professional services M&BD to gain on-the-job experience across all aspects of a fast-paced M&BD function within an international law firm. We have been running this scheme for over 10 years with multiple individuals returning to work with us after completing their degrees.

Please note that this role is only open to university placement year students who have chosen to complete a year in industry during the penultimate year of their course.

The role is a 13-month fixed-term contract starting in July 2026. By starting in July you will have the opportunity to settle in and have the benefit of a handover period with our current placement students.

The M&BD Team:

The Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) team at Simmons & Simmons is a dynamic group of value creators digital innovators and relationship builders. What will you do:

  • Pitching producing first drafts of client-facing pitch documents and supporting the maintenance of the firms pitch infrastructure and pitching tool PitchPerfect.

  • Client management producing first drafts of regular internal and client facing reports client feedback surveys updating relationship maps and updating content on client portals.

  • Research and reporting gathering data and compiling internal and client facing reports.

  • Directory submissions assisting with directory submissions (global rankings of law firms and lawyers) including chasing for content ensuring deadlines are met and liaising directly with our account managers at the directories.

  • Events assisting with all aspects of event planning and management for both in-person events and webinars including managing marketing lists producing event invitations internal communication diary co-ordination helping to prepare presenters organising event logistics and attending events on the day.

  • Client intelligence - assisting with the maintenance and administration of the firms client database (InterAction) and our relationship intelligence tool (Introhive).

  • Internal campaigns and team engagement Promoting internal campaigns such as showcasing new features of our client intelligence tools setting up resources to foster stronger team connections and updating intranet pages to ensure firmwide news remains relevant and accessible

  • Work as a team working with the team internationally and across functions to reach milestones and achieve objectives both in terms of significant projects and day to day tasks.

  • Achieve deadlines being proactive in picking up tasks and completing them in accordance with deadlines.

  • Familiarise yourself with M&BD processes continuously developing and evolving knowledge of relevant M&BD processes to provide efficient and high-quality support to the wider M&BD team and the firm.

  • Undertake training and development attending regular training and development and learning and implementing best practice and ensuring high quality levels. Gaining an understanding of the business through daily tasks and projects.

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues across different business functions and locations and directly with lawyers.

  • Report frequent reporting of service delivery and progress regarding projects.

  • No previous legal sector experience required just a willingness and enthusiasm to learn.

Career Level:

The career level assigned to this role is level 1. The career level framework provides a formal structure for the business services functions at the firm. The framework which ranges from level 1 to level 7 clearly defines the responsibilities skills and competencies required at each level.
