About Me
I am a 41-year-old man living with a C5 complete spinal cord injury following a car accident. I live with my partner and my rescue dog Marty who is a big part of my life. Before my injury I was very active and enjoyed playing sports particularly football. I loved running cycling spending time outdoors and going to the gym most evenings after work. I also took pride in my career and the work I did. While my life has changed I still enjoy socialising going to the pub when Im feeling up to it and taking part in a good pub quiz. Family and friends are extremely important to me and I value having people around me.
As a result of my spinal cord injury I have significantly reduced sensation in my limbs meaning I may not always perceive touch pressure or temperature. I experience frequent and sometimes unpredictable muscle spasms which can be uncomfortable and may require a few moments for me to manage and regain control. I also have limited balance and can be prone to falling forward so care and vigilance during transfers are essential.
