Primary Purpose:

Support the daily operation of the Child Care Center by assisting with the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for young children. Work collaboratively with the teaching team to promote a safe nurturing and engaging learning environment that supports childrens social emotional physical and cognitive development. Assist with family communication and ensure health safety and program standards are consistently followed.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • College coursework in child development education or a related field (preferred)
  • Ability to meet district health standards and physical requirements for the position
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

Experience

  • Experience working in an infant toddler or early childhood care setting (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of child growth and development and developmentally appropriate practices for children from birth through six years of age
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with children parents center staff and the general public
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism integrity and ethical conduct when working with students families and staff
  • Ability to learn to recognize signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect
  • Ability to appropriately apply First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques as required

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Planning & Classroom Support

  • Collaborate with the teaching team to develop plan and implement a developmentally appropriate daily curriculum that supports childrens social emotional physical and cognitive development.
  • Supervise and actively participate in group activities that promote engagement learning and positive social interaction.
  • Interact with children throughout the day to encourage participation curiosity and sustained interest in classroom activities.
  • Maintain childrens interest by regularly updating the classroom environment with books posters decorations and childrens artwork.

Child Supervision Safety & Well-Being

  • Ensure the safety supervision and well-being of children at all times by remaining attentive to individual and group needs.
  • Monitor children for behavioral emotional or developmental concerns and respond appropriately.
  • Communicate behavioral concerns incidents or safety issues to the teaching team and center director in a timely manner.
  • Use developmentally appropriate guidance and discipline practices and collaborate with classroom staff and parents to ensure consistency.

Family Engagement & Communication

  • Develop and maintain positive reciprocal relationships with childrens families through daily communication parent conferences classroom gatherings and center-wide social events.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding classroom activities child progress and behavioral or developmental concerns as appropriate.

Records Management & Confidentiality

  • Maintain accurate and complete records including lesson plans daily schedules attendance records anecdotal notes parent and emergency contacts incident reports allergy lists medication forms and assessments.
  • Safeguard all sensitive and confidential records and information to prevent intentional or unintentional disclosure.

Health Safety & Facility Maintenance

  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom and assigned areas before during and at the end of each day in accordance with prescribed cleaning procedures.
  • Comply with universal precautions and infection control guidelines to promote a healthy environment for children and staff.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all district policies procedures and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in professional development faculty/department meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties assigned to support the mission and goals of the district and campus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and direction to assigned child development center assistant(s)

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools and Equipment Used: Standard classroom and nursery equipment including toys playground equipment multiple-rider strollers changing tables and child care supplies; personal computer and printer.

Posture: Moderate standing; frequent bending kneeling squatting stooping and reaching associated with infant and early childhood care activities.

Motion: Moderate walking climbing lifting balancing and handling or moving children and classroom materials

Lifting: Regular light to moderate lifting and carrying of infants and young children including lifting children to and from changing tables and other care areas

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather); exposure to noise; frequent exposure to bodily fluids; work in close physical proximity to children requiring hands-on care and supervision

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control attentiveness and sound judgement under stress while ensuring the safety security and well-being of children during care activities including diapering and medication administration as authorized.
