Job Summary

Position Title:K-5 Social Studies Curriculum Lead

Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning

Purpose: The purpose of the Curriculum Lead is to support the curriculum review process from discovery and ideation through field testing and implementation. This role ensures alignment with educational standards and provides ongoing feedback and support to teachers for high-quality implementation. By fostering collaboration and continuous improvement the Curriculum Lead helps enhance instructional practices to advance student achievement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience with the most recent year in the Urbandale Community School District.
  • Strong content knowledge in the area of focus with a proven record of innovative instructional practices that enhance student engagement and outcomes.
  • Ability to utilize domain-specific habits of mind in instruction to foster critical thinking and deeper learning among students.
  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate and support peers in a positive manner.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development educational standards and assessment practices.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Review and Development:
    • Lead the curriculum review process from discovery and ideation through the development and field testing phases.
    • Ensure that the curriculum aligns with district state and national educational standards focusing on promoting a culture of dignity and belonging and student achievement.
    • Collaborate with teachers and content teams to develop instructional materials and resources that support effective teaching practices.
  • Field Testing and Implementation:
    • Field testing of new curriculum materials and instructional resources gathering feedback to inform revisions.
    • Implementing the new curriculum and providing guidance and professional development as needed.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of the curriculum implementation through classroom observations teacher feedback and student performance data.
  • Professional Learning and Training:
    • Lead professional learning sessions for staff aligned to content or program area under curriculum development.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and support to teachers aligned to content or program area under curriculum development.
  • Ongoing Support and Feedback:
    • Provide continuous support to teachers by offering feedback and strategies to enhance instructional practices in alignment with the curriculum.
    • Collaborate with instructional coaches and leadership teams to ensure consistent and effective implementation of curriculum across grade levels and content areas.
    • Facilitate reflective conversations with teachers about instructional practices and curriculum alignment that advance a Culture of Dignity and Belonging.
  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement:
    • Foster a culture of collaboration among teachers content leaders and other stakeholders in the curriculum development process.
    • Lead ongoing professional learning opportunities focused on curriculum implementation instructional strategies and assessment practices.
    • Encourage continuous improvement by evaluating curriculum effectiveness and recommending adjustments to support student achievement.
  • Assessment and Data-Driven Decision Making:
    • Work closely with teachers to ensure that assessments are aligned with curriculum objectives and educational standards.
    • Use data from assessments to evaluate student progress and identify areas for curriculum refinement or intervention.

Additional Time: Requires additional time beyond regular responsibilities and contract hours.

Year 1: $1000
