Reports To: Director for Specialized Programs

Duty Days:187 Days

Wage/Hour Status:Non-Exempt

Pay Grade:IS04

Qualifications:

15 College hours or high school diploma or GED (with a passing score of 464 on the ParaPro test)

Communicate and work with students with disabilities

Maintain effective working relationships

Minimum clerical skills

Good physical and emotional condition

Work with confidential material and student records

Paraprofessional Educational Aide II certificate required

CPI certification once employed

Have a CDL or willing to earn one in the first year of employment

Primary Purpose:

Clerical and student-care assistance as assigned

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist special education teachers in implementing instructional program for students.
  2. Assist in employability and daily living training in the community setting
  3. Assist in the transportation of students in the community setting
  4. Assist in collecting data and maintaining confidential student records and charts for determining student progress.
  5. Assist with self-care of students including toileting bathing feeding etc.
  6. Assist in implementing activities recommended by support and related service personnel.
  7. Assist in implementing behavior intervention strategies.
  8. Assist in implementing recommended assistive technology devices to support programming.
  9. Assist in carrying out all activities as described in the students IEP under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  10. Assist teachers in preparing and duplicating instructional materials.
  11. Assist with maintaining/cleaning equipment needs for student program.
  12. Assist in providing non-medical procedures such as tube feeding and other interventions as necessary for the student.
  13. Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
  14. Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  15. Assist in maintaining student records audit folders and data collection.
  16. Assist in preparation use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
  17. Assist with teacher-planned activities exercises and drills.
  18. Attend professional meetings as required.
  19. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  20. Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
  21. Other SHARS Duties as assigned.
  22. Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Personal computer copier printer calculator laminator Smart board ovens dishwashers microwave washer/dryer radio communication equipment. Adaptive equipment Wheelchair wheelchair lifts wheelchair restraints ramps locks electric changing table Hoyer lift various physical therapy equipment assistive technology including voice output devices Gastrointestinal tube.

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Moderate standing stooping kneeling pushing and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment. Lift moderate weight 15 44 pounds and carry light weight 15 pounds. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposed to biological hazards body fluids and communicable diseases and chemical hazards. Exposure to noise.
