**Salary Range**
Human Resources Specialist I: $5702.33 - $6931.25/monthly
Human Resources Specialist II: $6294.25 - $7650.75/monthly
This recruitment is to fill one (1) vacancy in the Human Resources/Risk Management Department and may be filled at either the Human Resources Specialist I or II level.

TheHuman Resources/Risk Management Department is organized into three key program areas: Personnel General Liability/Workers Compensation and Employee Services. The Personnel Program supports all City departments with recruitment hiring and employee relations. The General Liability/Workers Compensation Program develops and implements risk management strategies and loss prevention policies to protect the City from potential liabilities. The Employee Services Program oversees employee health wellness and compensation plans including the administration of labor agreements memoranda of understanding with employee associations and compliance with government mandates.
Duties/Responsibilities
What Youll Do
As our new Human Resources Specialist I/II you will:
- Work with departments to prepare and publish job announcements and screen applications.
- Coordinate applicant interviews and conduct interview orientations schedule employment examinations; proctor and review exam results; schedule appointments for candidates in the background process including pre-employment physicals psychological exams and stress tests as applicable.
- Compose type edit and proofread a variety of human resources documents including forms memos correspondence for department management and staff.
- Collect and compile human resources data; prepare or assist in the preparation of monthly quarterly and year-end human resources legal summary and technical reports as directed.
- Schedule candidates for live scans/fingerprinting.
- Schedule prepare materials and proctor exams for law enforcement including Police Officer Standards and Training Public Safety Dispatcher Corporal Sergeant and Lieutenant; send exams for grading and distribute results.
- Establish and maintain candidate eligibility lists; notify hiring departments and candidates of application status; collect and compile new hire checklist paperwork and forms; complete verification of employment and driving record requests.
- Ensure accuracy in tracking applicants through each phase of the selection process; prepare applicant tracking reports and summaries as required.
- Draft conditional and/or final offers of employment for hiring managers; verify completion of new hire paperwork; enter new employee information into the HRIS.

- Is knowledgeable in the principles and practices of human resources including recruitment and selection and general human resources administration.
- Understands policies procedures personnel rules and labor contract provisions.
- Provides high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public vendors contractors or City staff.
- Is knowledgeable in applicable federal state and local laws codes and regulations as well as industry standards and best practices.
- Has the ability to compose correspondence and reports independently or from brief instructions.
- Exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive complex and confidential personnel issues and employee situations.
- Is excited by challenges loves to learn and thrives in a collaborative fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Education: Human Resources Specialist I/II:Equivalent to anassociate degree from an accredited college with major coursework in human resources management business or public administration or a related field.
- Experience:
Human Resources Specialist I:One (1) year of technical or paraprofessional human resources or clerical experience.
Human Resources Specialist II:Two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical or paraprofessional human resources or clerical experience.
Special Requirements
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
- Occasionally end steep kneel reach push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information.
- Must possess the ability to lift carry push and pull materials and objects up to 20 pounds.
