Job Summary

Snapshot

As a GenAI Technical Program Manager you will be the operational backbone of our research teams managing critical compute resources and driving technical initiatives that power our models. This is a versatile role requiring a mix of technical program management (TPgM) and traditional program management (PgM) expertise. You will oversee the allocation and efficiency of TPU fleets while rotating between various high-impact GenAI projects ensuring that our most critical research initiatives have the infrastructure and operational support they need to succeed.

The Role

This is a hybrid Technical Program Management role that sits at the intersection of operations strategy and research. You will bring a deep understanding of program management fundamentals to handle the complexities of large-scale resource allotments and technical workflows.

A key aspect of this role is its dynamic nature: you will continually rotate between different units and projects based on priority and research cycles. You will be responsible for driving technical projects collaborating with stakeholders to define tech roadmaps and ensuring high-priority experiments are successfully scheduled and executed. Beyond compute management you will lead data operations and drive other critical programs from inception to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Driving Technical Projects & Roadmaps: Lead complex technical initiatives and define tech roadmaps to align resource scaling with strategic research goals.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with Research Leads engineers and leadership to resolve resource conflicts and negotiate solutions for high-priority experiments.
  • Operational Execution: Execute technical configurations (CLs MDB groups) for compute allotments and manage quota access as research needs evolve.
  • Efficiency & Analytics: Monitor fleet usage metrics to proactively identify limitations and coordinate rebalancing across rotating projects.
  • Program Management: Manage full project lifecycles defining milestones managing risks and ensuring the smooth landing of operational initiatives across different research sub-units.

About You

We are looking for a versatile leader who can ramp up quickly across different technical domains and thrives in a fast-paced environment where project priorities shift frequently.

Requirements (Non-negotiable):

  • Past Compute Experience: Any type of past experience managing technical resources (cloud compute hardware fleets or large-scale quotas). We value the ability to learn on the job and ramp up quickly.
  • Quick Ramp-up: Demonstrated ability to enter new technical areas and become productive in a short period.
  • Strong Program Management: Proven track record of driving projects from inception to landing managing complexity and delivering results.
  • Stakeholder Management: Excellent skills in collaborating with stakeholders (researchers engineers leadership) to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Tech Roadmaps: Experience defining and executing technical roadmaps for complex systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with configuration languages (e.g. textproto) or version control systems (e.g. submitting CLs).
  • AI/ML Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with the training lifecycle for large-scale models.
  • Process Improvement: Experience designing new operational processes or trackers to improve team efficiency.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $156000 - $229000 bonus equity benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
