Job Summary

TITLE: Educational Assistant - Front Door & Library REVISED 01/11/24

HOURS: 7:40 am - 2:40 pm (181 days per school year) APPROVED 02/26/24

LOCATION: Westlake Middle School

RATE:$17.52 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum two years post-secondary (48 credits) Associate Degree or passing score on the Title I Paraprofessional Assessment test administered through I.U.5 preferred.

  1. High School diploma.
  2. Previous library and computer experience/degree desirable.
  3. Have an interest in libraries and possess a willingness to work with others particularly students.
  4. Ability to multi-task while maintaining a calm and helpful demeanor.
  5. Typing skills and computer literacy required.
  6. Maintain confidentiality of District and school business.
  7. Demonstrate a working knowledge of online library.
  8. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

REPORTS TO:Building Principal

JOB GOAL:Support the delivery of the educational program to students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform all clerical duties including:
    1. Correspondence
    2. Bibliographies
    3. Forms for library use
    4. Statistics and records
    5. Computer catalog records
    6. Computer catalog operations
    7. Book processing/management (spine labels bar coding etc.)
  2. Input library borrowers information into computer.
  3. Assist in preparing materials for use and repair of materials. These duties include:
    1. Process all new library materials (books periodicals and AV resources).
    2. Create MARC records for all library materials.
    3. Repair of materials in a timely fashion.
  4. Assist in preparation of materials for bibliographies including gathering materials for teachers when requested.
  5. Perform circulation tasks of all library materials (books periodicals and AV resources).
    1. Check materials in and out.
    2. Arrange materials on the shelves.
    3. Locate and retrieve materials.
    4. Prepare and send overdue notices.
    5. Record circulation statistics.
  6. Process materials withdrawn by librarian including removing MARC records of withdrawn materials and from catalog and Access PA.
  7. Assist with inventory and deselecting.
  8. Assist with displays and bulletin boards to enhance the atmosphere of the library.
  9. Monitor students and library operations.
  10. Respond to the needs and interest of all library patrons (students teachers administrators and parents) under the supervision of the library coordinator and administration while maintaining an appropriate study-oriented or leisure reading atmosphere.
  11. Demonstrate a working knowledge of all computer programs subscription databases and other online resources.
  12. Observe and report student behavior using referral forms and other appropriate processes.
  13. Fulfill lamination requests for the building.
  14. Create hall passes for faculty when needed.
  15. Enter classroom attendance for substitutes.
  16. Lend Chromebooks to students. Accept broken student devices from IT. Replace toner as needed.
  17. Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or their designee

    1. Ability to sit talk and hear.
    2. Ability to stand walk climb balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl and move quickly when necessary to promote student learning and/or safety.
    3. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    4. Ability to push items of 50 lbs. such as pushing children in a wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture.

    SENSORY ABILITY:

    1. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
    2. Auditory acuity to be able to use telephone.
    3. Visual acuity to read correspondence and computer screen.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    1. Indoor and outdoor environments.

    TEMPERAMENT:

    1. Ability to work as a member of a team.
    2. Must be courteous.
    3. Must be cooperative congenial service-oriented and promote these qualities in the building.
