Job Summary

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval award amount (up to $200000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.


Duties

The Chief Nurse for Research coordinates manages and provides subject matter expertise in the development design and implementation of nursing research projects across Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS). The Chief Nurse for Research manages multiple research projects and teams and actively engages and mentors staff nurses for research inclusion. The Chief Nurse for Research provides leadership in provision of training and consultation to support individual or teams in research projects that promote and advance the use of research-based practice and performance addition the Chief Nurse for Research provides leadership in the translation of research findings into nursing practice and the profession to promote evidence-based practice across OVAHCS. The Chief Nurse for Research will advance Nursing and interprofessional research across the system to promote optimal staff and clinic outcomes. The Chief Nurse for Research collaborates with all Chief Nurses nurse leaders and other researchers including staff nurses to identify nursing research studies and performance improvement that align with the strategic direction of the organization.

The Chief Nurse for Research develops education programs supporting translation of the research process into practical steps for nursing staff supporting professional growth and skill development. The Chief Nurse for Research leads the development and design of research studies and serves as an expert in research design methodologies and process in collaboration with nurse scientists across the system. The Chief Nurse for Research is responsible for maintaining system registry and annual reporting of all nursing research & publications. The Chief Nurse for Research provides knowledge and expertise in the areas of statistical and qualitative data analysis. The Chief Nurse for Research develops or assists in the development of curriculum relative to research and process improvement and conducts training and/or oversees delivery of training. The Chief Nurse for Research builds partnerships with local nursing schools to promote collaboration on research projects among faculty and OVAHCS nurses. The Chief Nurse for Research provides leadership in collaboration with nurse leaders and the Pathway to Excellence (PTE) Coordinator in meeting research requirements for PTE designation and to ensure the organization meets PTE standards for nursing research.

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:

    NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification.


    The following Scope Education and Dimension criteria must be met to qualify for Nurse IV:
    • Scope: Executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care.
    • Education: Masters degree in Nursing (MSN) and 4 years of professional nursing experience one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse IV; OR Masters degree in a *related field with a BSN and 4 years of professional nursing experience one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse IV; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing and 3 years of professional nursing experience one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse IV; OR a Doctoral degree in a *related field with a BSN and 3 years of professional nursing experience one of which is specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse III and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse IV. *Note: Foreign education programs/degrees are not creditable as related degrees.
    • Dimensions:

      • Professional and Social Responsibility. Operationalizes a lifestyle of holistic care health advocacy and health equity. Applies ethical principles in decision-making at the program or service level. Advances nursing knowledge through health science research and the translation and dissemination of evidence into practice to maximize the value to Veterans and the community.

    Preferred Experience:
    • DNP preferred or PhD preferred
    • At least 1 year of expanded leadership to Chief Nurse or Associate Chief nurse leadership exp. preferred
    • Designing and conducting research studies preferred
    • Guiding evidence-based practice and implementation science preferred
    • Record of scholarly activity e.g. peer-reviewed publications national conference presentation preferred mentoring experience preferred research methodology and grant writing familiarity with the IRB process preferred
    • Past experience as Clinical Research Coordinator or certified clinical research Associate.
