PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Are you an organised and proactive individual with a passion for audio production Production coordinators are the glue that holds programme making together and their work and influence touches every aspect of the lifecycle of a programme. Theyre the team responsible for all the resources a programme needs does it have the right budget is money being spent in the most effective way does it have the right team in the right place at the right time with the right paperwork (especially for complex location recordings) are we working in the most environmentally sustainable way possible are copyright items cleared to be published on all our platforms and do programmes have all the metadata required attached to them to enable both audience and archive searchability

BBC Audios creative teams produce 20500 shows and make an extraordinary range of content. Were made up of 500 colleagues who produce over 90 hours of content every single day. We supply programmes podcasts and music for almost all of the BBCs radio networks and BBC Sounds.
Radio 1s Breakfast Show with Greg James to Radio 4 favourites such as Womans Hour You & Yours and The Archers are made by our teams.
In Speech production we create content across a wide range of specialist Bristol our output ranges from arts programmes such as Radio 4s Soul Music to factual and topical output such as Farming Today and Any Questions
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Resource Management: Ensure all necessary resources (IT production staff freelancers) are available and all content attracting copyright is clearable.
- Staffing & Cost Coordination: Assist in scheduling staff to programmes and help to manage the staffing and programme budgets ensuring productions remain within budget and deliver value for money. Support Production Manager in liaising with external providers and manage cost decisions within budgetary remit.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with policies guidelines and legislative requirements to minimise risk.
- Influencing team-members within BBC Audio and the wider BBC: Influence and motivate key contacts and colleagues to achieve desired outcomes.
- Project Planning: Demonstrate strong organisational and planning skills to manage projects effectively.
- Value for Money: Ensure production/content delivers demonstrable value for money through effective coordination of people and resources.
- Budget Management: Prepare manage set and monitor production budgets including forecasting and reporting. Assess financial viability of content ideas.
- Metadata Management: Adhere to processes for capturing and managing metadata in line with BBC guidelines ensuring Archives have necessary information.
Note: This role may require early morning and weekend working. It is based in Broadcasting House Whiteladies Road Bristol but travel and location work may be necessary including during evenings and weekends. Production Coordinators as members of BBC Audio Wales & West can be expected to be scheduled on programmes across the department according to business need.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Proven track record of playing a co-ordinating role within a production team
- Experience of delivering a range of/parts of productions on time and on budget and coordinating deliverables for productions
- Good working knowledge of end-to-end multi-platform production with a level of technical awareness
- Excellent organisational and planning skills; able to schedule and prioritise people and activities to meet operational deadlines
- Business and financeskills; able to prepare manage and/or monitor specific production resource plans and budgets
