A Brief Overview
The Lead Medical Interpreter Translator will perform any duties assigned to Medical Interpreter Translators I II and III as addition under the direct supervision of the Leadership of Interpreter Services this role will assign tasks to interpreters/translators and perform other responsibilities including but not limited to testing training dispatching and onboarding.
This position is essential in guaranteeing that all patients receive equitable access to healthcare services and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for diverse populations. By effectively navigating language differences the Lead Medical Interpreter Translator contributes to the overall quality of care and patient satisfaction within the Stanford Health Care community.

What you will do

  • Conduct onboarding of new hires or interns
  • Respond to provider questions or concerns as needed
  • Manage SAFE report intake
  • Perform mail merge/email outreach
  • Develop outreach materials/planning
  • Create statistical reports
  • Develop workflows and SOPs
  • Other duties as assigned


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university Required
  • Masters degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university Preferred
  • CHI (Spanish Mandarin or Arabic) or Core-P (Performance) CCHI Certification Required. NBMI completed before 2008 is accepted.


Experience Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in the field required


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency in English and the designated language(s) of service demonstrated by passing the SHC Medical Interpretation and Translation exam with superior scores
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities including task delegation performance monitoring and team coordination
  • Ability to train mentor and provide constructive feedback to interpreters/translators
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop innovative solutions to complex interpretation challenges
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate schedules effectively
  • Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of diverse receivers
  • Exhibit exemplary interpersonal skills and exercise sound judgment and professionalism in business and personnel matters
  • Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality of protected and sensitive information as governed by legal regulations institutional policies and professional interpreter and translator codes of ethics
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgment in high-stress or challenging situations
  • Exceptional ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Skilled in maintaining and modeling professional boundaries in all interactions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cultural and perceptual factors that may affect patient treatment and communication
  • Ability to develop and implement protocols and standards for interpretation services
  • Experience with quality assurance processes and continuous improvement methods


Licenses and Certifications

  • CoreCHI-Performance (CoreCHI-P) required Upon Hire or
  • Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) required Upon Hire

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $45.59 - $51.33 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity experience education specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
