Summary Description
The Director of Instruction provides vision in the ongoing planning implementation development direction review and evaluation of the districts curriculum and instructional services and federal programs.
The Director ensures that the district/school education objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence.
Their leadership will provide support to all division-level leaders and school-based leaders in continuous school improvement processes designed to accomplish the mission and strategic goals established by the school division.
The Director of Instruction in collaboration with the Office of School Leadership oversees all curricular and assessment programs across PK-12. This includes providing oversight for curriculum and instruction leading professional development leading data-driven decision-making. The Director of Instruction supervises and evaluates division level coordinators and supervisors of instructional services.
The Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and participates as a member of the Assistant Superintendents administrative leadership team.
Qualifications
- Virginia postgraduate professional teaching license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision
- Masters Degree required
- Minimum of five years successful experience as a teacher
- Minimum of five years successful supervisory experience in the field of education
- Knowledge of Infinite Campus preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the Virginia Standards of Learning pedagogy and current best practices in instruction and leadership
- Possess strong communication collaborative and interpersonal skills
- Possess an understanding of federal and state legislation and policies related to academic content achievement standards and instructional support programs and activities
- Possess a high level of initiative self-direction and motivation
- Capable of diplomacy judgment problem solving and accountability
- Maintain a positive attitude and a solution-based approach to challenges in the workplace.
- Be a creative highly collaborative results-oriented adaptable problem-solving self-starter.
- Embrace using data to inform instructional planning and practice.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Excel sharing and analyzing student performance results and humility in constantly working to improve instructional practices.
- Preferred to support the need for rigorous professional development and coaching with a focus on continuous improvement and instructional effectiveness.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Be computer savvy with proficiency in email word processing spreadsheets Google Docs etc.
Essential Duties
Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides leadership for cohesive and effective systems and structures for K12 curriculum and instruction.
- Oversees data collection and analysis for planning including the use of technology systems.
- Facilitates the design and implementation of a five (5) year plan for the implementation of curriculum and high-quality standards-based instruction as well as professional learning that supports the curriculum instruction and assessment in all content-areas.
- Establishes ongoing priorities goals and strategies for the development of curriculum and the development and acquisition of instructional resources.
- Provides programming and support for increasing student achievement.
- Implements curricular design standards and benchmarks that support student achievement of grade-level standards.
- Conducts policy analysis development and revision related to curriculum and professional learning to enhance services for students.
- Develops and implements division/department policies and procedures.
- Initiates and supports the capacity building and the development instructional expertise for division and school staff
- Works with federal state regional and school personnel to facilitate the development and implementation of curricular and instructional programs.
- Collaborates with leadership from all division level departments to ensure all stakeholders are included in the design development and delivery of support systems.
- Communicates and implements applicable laws codes regulations policies and procedures.
- Implements continuous review and improvement of processes and procedures throughout the division.
- Represent the school district in meetings and conferences related to curriculum and instruction assessment and technology.
- Report periodically to the board on all curriculum instruction and assessment matters and all technology issues as directed by the Superintendent.
- Make recommendations pertaining to policy and procedure to the Assistant Superintendent.
- Coordinate and supervise the Instructional Support program for the district including supervises and evaluates programs and the performance of assigned staff.
- Performs other duties related to the position as assigned

The salary range is $102286-$168432
