Duties

VA Careers - Lead Medical Support Assistant: Rewards of a Allied Health Professional

The Lead MSA monitors the work of the Medical Support Assistants and provides support to Administrative Personnel of their services

Duties include but are not limited to:


Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm M-F
Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave 13 days of sick leave 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth adoption or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment full time employees with a total family income below $144000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:

    US Citizenship is required. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 Part II Chapter 3 Section A paragraph 3.g.).

    ENGLISH: Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Must possess six (6) months experience of clerical office customer service or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the Medical Support Assistant.
    OR
    Must have successfully completed one (1) year above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited technical school junior college college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours 45 quarter hours or the equivalent in a college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
    OR
    Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying for entry level. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

    IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS LISTED ABOVE YOU MUST MEET THE GRADE REQUIREMENTS AT THE GS-7 LEVEL TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION.

    GS-07 - The Lead MSA is responsible for daily workload assessments assigning work and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of MSAs to provide support across interdisciplinary settings.

    Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. Experience at this grade level consists of: Providing specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Recommending changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines. Utilizing numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. Coordinating with the patient care team to review clinic appointment availability and utilization to ensure that clinic schedules are closely monitored to effectively support the needs of clinics and making
    adjustments as necessary. Work involves specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics specialties and/or care in the community resources.
    AND
    Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

    1. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics specialties and/or community resources.
    2. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting.
    3. Ability to organize work set priorities and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.
    4. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff.
    5. Ability to provide staff development and training.
    6. Ability to manage staffing requirements manage workflow priorities and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics.
