Job Summary


Duties

  • Conducts criminal and administrative investigations. Determines the scope of investigations and utilizes the expertise of senior criminal investigators auditors Office of General Counsel attorneys or other personnel in the investigative process.
  • Conducts investigations with extreme tact and discretion. Plans organizes and conducts interviews of suspects subjects complainants and witnesses and administers oaths and right warnings.
  • Presents investigative findings both orally and in written reports to DFAS Attorneys when requested to senior officials including the Director and staff Assistant US attorneys as well as other senior officials of the Federal government.
  • Maintains investigative files in a professional organized manner in order that all pertinent information will be readily available upon receipt of inquiries from senior DFAS officials including the Director Internal Review (IR).
  • Plans and executes special inquiries and assignments originating from requests by the DoDIG the Director DFAS or senior agency officials or the IR Director Deputy Director and senior managers.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-11) within the federal service which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience in planning and conducting investigations relating to alleged or suspected criminal violations of Federal laws; with emphasis on contract fraud and program fraud; highly proficient in critically analyzing financial crimes; recognizing developing and presenting evidence to reconstruct events; sequences time elements relationships responsibilities legal liabilities and conflicts of interest; devising new investigative approaches techniques and policies; preparing written documentation such as reports describing evidence recording facts about persons objects and events; communicating instructions verbally presenting case facts and recommendations conducting interviews and interrogations; assisting other criminal investigators management and US Attorneys under the guidance of a senior level in investigator.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-11 or higher grade in Federal Service.

You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade specialized experience education requirement 90 days after competitive appointment requirement and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
