Job Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic nurturing and experienced Year 1 Teacher to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Peckham starting as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about Key Stage 1 and enjoys helping children transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage to structured learning with confidence and curiosity.

The school has a strong child-centred ethos prioritising inclusion collaboration and pupil wellbeing. As a Year 1 Teacher you will plan deliver and assess lessons across the Key Stage 1 curriculum. You will encourage independence resilience and a love of learning while ensuring every child reaches their academic and personal potential. Collaboration with teaching assistants colleagues and parents is central to supporting pupils effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan deliver and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum

  • Deliver engaging literacy numeracy and foundation subject lessons

  • Support pupils transitioning from EYFS to Key Stage 1

  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils including SEND and EAL

  • Promote independence confidence and positive learning behaviours

  • Maintain a structured inclusive and stimulating classroom environment

  • Track pupil progress and maintain accurate assessment records

  • Provide targeted interventions to support pupil attainment

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants colleagues and senior leaders

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress

  • Contribute to staff meetings CPD sessions and whole-school initiatives

  • Support school events enrichment activities and extra-curricular opportunities

  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Have experience teaching Key Stage 1 ideally Year 1

  • Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills

  • Be nurturing reflective and adaptable

  • Show a strong commitment to inclusion safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

  • Work collaboratively as part of a professional supportive team
