Secondary Teacher - 2026 Summer School Secondary Credit Programs
Overview:
The 2026 Summer School Secondary Credit program offers teaching opportunities in Reach Ahead credit courses including Credit Recovery and Cooperative Education through the following platforms locations and times: eLearning Asynchronous delivery only via the OCDSBs Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Teachers work from home* Thursday July 2 - Thursday July 30 - 5.5 hours/day (21 days ) Virtual Combined synchronous/asynchronous delivery via Google Classroom/Google Meet Teachers work from home* or may report to one of the designated in-person sites (LDHSS Adult HS) Monday July 6 - Tuesday July 28 2026 from 8:30 am - 3:35 pm (17 days) In-Person Daily face-to-face classroom sessions Teachers work from an assigned site (Sir Robert Borden SS or Adult HS) Monday July 6 - Tuesday July 28 2026 from 8:30 am - 3:35 pm (17 days) Credit Recovery Synchronous/asynchronous and in-person Teachers work in-person from Sir Robert Borden from July 6 - 10 (minimum) Monday July 6 - Tuesday July 28 2026 from 8:30 am - 11:45 am (17 days) Cooperative Education Synchronous and In-Person Students and Parents Information Meeting: June 10 2026 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm Teachers work from Brookfield HS (July 2 3 and 6 for pre-placement) and must have access to a reliable vehicle to conduct placement assessments and student site visits Single credit - Thursday July 2 - Friday July 24 2026 - 6.5 hours/day (17 days) Double credit - Thursday July 2 - Friday August 14 2026 - 7 hours and 10 minutes/day (31 days) *Please note that teachers who choose to work from home must have reliable internet access and may be required to come to a designated school site throughout the program. N.B. Teachers working with accommodations through Employee Wellness specifically denoting summer school dates are required to share this information with the Principal of Continuing Education before accepting any offer of work to be sure the required accommodations can be met. Pay rate: $56.84/hour 4% in lieu of vacation Please note as per the most recent collective agreement Article 40.02 (c) states: In the event that the Employer cancels two (2) or more days/evenings of Continuing Education courses as a result of unforeseen circumstances beyond its control Continuing Education teachers will be required to attend and teach a make-up day. For the 2026 Summer School session the replacement dates will be held on the following last school day. Application Process:
There is only ONE posting for the 2026 Summer School Session . All teachers (with or without Continuing Education Seniority) may apply to this posting. Applicants MUST hold Intermediate & Senior qualifications in the appropriate discipline with the Ontario College of Teachers and be in good standing at the time of application to be considered for an offer of work. Per the Collective Agreement applicants with CE Seniority who appear on the February 2026 Continuing Education Seniority List and hold the required qualifications will be considered for positions first . All applicants must apply using an account through Apply to Education. Teachers employed with the OCDSB and/or CE seniority will already have an account linked to their OCDSB Employee Identification Number (EIN). If there are still positions available after all teachers with CE Seniority who applied to this posting have been placed teachers without CE Seniority may be offered a position based on their applicable qualifications in accordance with Policy Equitable Recruitment Hiring and Promotion. Staffing Timelines:
Staffing timelines for Summer School become more and more constrained as we edge closer to the end of June. Last minute hiring may occur over the last week of June or early Jul y. Initial offers of work for Co-op begin at the end of May to expedite the program. Other program offers of work will begin no earlier than June 2 2026. Offers of work will be sent by the Principal of Continuing Education to the preferred up-to-date email you provided in Apply to Education (ATE). Please make sure that your preferred email address is up-to-date in ATE. Due to staffing time constraints associated with the summer school program offers of work will include very specific 24-hour response parameters for acceptance/decline. Teachers will have 24 hours to respond to the offer. Where acceptances are not received within the 24-hour timeframes specified in the email it will be assumed that you are declining the offer of work and may lose the opportunity to work within the Summer School program. Staff Meetings and Professional Development Each program will have a mandatory paid Staff Meeting (1 hour) on the day prior to the start of the summer school program except for the Co-op program. The staff meeting for Co-op will be between June 1 and June 11 at 440 Albert Street. The time for the meeting will be included in the offer of work letters. Teachers will also have the option to participate in up to 3 hours of approved paid PD. Further details about the optional PD will be provided to successful applicants prior to the start of the session.
