Position Overview
Northwest Talent Solutions (NWTS) is partnering with a global medical technology organization to identify a highly accomplished Senior Control Systems Engineer for a critical R&D role supporting next-generation medical devices.
This position focuses on the design development and validation of closed-loop control algorithms used in patient monitoring and drug delivery systems. The role is ideal for an engineer with deep expertise in control engineering signal processing embedded systems and human physiology who thrives in a highly regulated collaborative on-site R&D environment.
Key Responsibilities
-
Design develop and implement closed-loop control algorithms for medical devices including adaptive control and model predictive control
-
Apply control theory system dynamics signal processing and mathematical modeling to real-time physiological systems
-
Develop simulation models using MATLAB / Simulink to validate control strategies and optimize system performance
-
Translate simulation results into real-time embedded implementations using C/C
-
Analyze physiological signals and sensor data to improve device responsiveness and system performance
-
Support pre-clinical animal and clinical studies including data analysis interpretation and technical reporting
-
Execute verification and validation (V&V) activities in compliance with FDA ISO and IEC standards
-
Prepare technical documentation supporting regulatory submissions including algorithm design rationale safety analysis and performance evidence
-
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including systems engineering clinical quality and regulatory teams
-
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers working on emerging technologies and programs
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related scientific discipline with 6 years of relevant experience or
-
Masters degree with 5 years of experience or
-
PhD or equivalent with 2 years of experience (strongly preferred)

Advanced expertise in control engineering and system dynamics
-
Demonstrated experience in signal processing system identification and algorithm development
-
Proficiency with MATLAB / Simulink and C/C for real-time or embedded systems
-
Experience working within regulated development environments including FDA design controls and IEC software lifecycle processes
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
Preferred Experience
-
Design and implementation of physiologic closed-loop medical devices (e.g. insulin delivery systems ventilators anesthesia or infusion systems)
-
Background in human physiology particularly cardiovascular hemodynamics and vital-sign parameters
-
Experience with pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) modeling
-
Application of machine learning or AI techniques to control systems
-
Clinical or pre-clinical data analysis experience
-
Ability to partner effectively with clinicians executives and external collaborators
Work Environment
This role requires regular on-site collaboration to support innovation system integration and cross-functional alignment. A minimum of four days per week on site is expected.
