Job Description:
AGeneral Manager (GM) of Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) in a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plantis a senior executive responsible for leading all E&I functions from design and project execution to ongoing operations and maintenance ensuring high plant availability safety compliance and efficiency.
Key responsibilities are typically divided into the following areas:
Operational & Maintenance (O&M) Responsibilities
- System Oversight: Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of all E&I systems including HT/LT power systems (substations transformers switchgears VFDs) motors and field instruments (pressure temperature flow level transmitters).
- Automation & Control: Oversee the smooth functioning of DCS/PLC and SCADA systems related to the DRI process including automation for blast furnace/kiln operations gas cleaning plants and material handling systems.
- Maintenance Strategy: Plan and execute preventive predictive and breakdown maintenance to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime. This includes spare parts planning and inventory control.
- Troubleshooting: Lead the team in diagnosing and resolving complex E&I issues efficiently during operation and emergencies.
Project and Improvement Initiatives
- Project Management: Manage E&I aspects of capital projects modernizations and plant upgrades from conceptualization and technical specification finalization to execution and commissioning.
- Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with OEMs consultants and contractors during project execution including technical bid evaluation and contract finalization.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives for energy efficiency automation upgrades and reliability improvements (e.g. Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and FMEA studies).
Safety and Compliance
- Safety Leadership: Promote a safety-first culture ensure strict adherence to electrical safety rules LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures and conduct regular safety audits.
- Regulatory Liaison: Ensure compliance with all local and national electrical codes safety standards (e.g. IE Rules Factory Act) and environmental norms. Liaise with statutory authorities for inspections and clearances.
Management and Leadership
- Team Leadership: Lead mentor and manage a team of E&I engineers supervisors and technicians. Plan manpower deployment and training programs.
- Budgeting and Cost Control: Develop and manage departmental budgets monitor expenditure and implement cost-saving measures.
- Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with other departments (Operations Mechanical Finance) and report key results to senior management.
