Job Summary

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nations largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Today we are an alliance of hundreds of local affiliates state organizations and a national office that work in communities across the United States to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI advocates for all who are affected by mental illness both the individuals and the people in their lives. We work to address disparities and injustices and to promote dignity and inclusion for all people with mental illness and their addition to being advocates we educate we listen and we lead as evidenced by our public awareness campaigns the range of programs we provide and our strong public policy.

We currently have an opening for Manager Donor Relations. The Manager Donor Relations (Midlevel Gifts) is responsible for developing tailored communications to welcome renew and upgrade donors in the $1000 to $5000 giving range. This position works under the direction of the National Director Individual Giving & Development and is a vital member of the Strategic Alliances & Development team to ensure ample unrestricted donations to support and enhance NAMIs mission.

This full-time position can be remote or based at NAMI Headquarters in Arlington VA on a hybrid basis.

Salary Range: $70k - $75k

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivates donor relationships by updating stewarding and soliciting donors to deepen their financial partnership with NAMI
  • Qualifies solicits and closes gifts from Compassion Collective donors focused on midlevel ($1000-5000). Donor interactions are strongly focused on phone calls and can require cold calls.
  • Meets or exceeds goals in donor retention revenue and other targets established collaboratively with the National Director each year
  • Under the direction of the National Director and working with direct response and midlevel consultants implements and manages NAMIs midlevel donor program (individuals in the $1000-$5000 giving range) including establishing short-term and long-term strategies.
  • Collaborates closely with direct response midlevel ($5000-$10000) and major gifts ($10000) team members to ensure consistent relevant and timely donor communications and engagement opportunities.
  • Develops personalized digital engagement and direct marketing strategies tailored to the midlevel donor audience including thank you calls and emails letters special invitations follow-up to survey responses lift notes progress reports and other activities.
  • Maintains accurate and current records in the CRM (Salesforce) of donor engagement and moves management.
  • Initiates research and analyzes NAMIs midlevel donor program to welcome and renew as well as develop a segment/pipeline of donors with the capacity and inclination to increase their giving and engagement using donor profiles and behavioral metrics.
  • Learns about NAMI programs and projects and effectively communicates the mission to donors.
  • Researches identifies and promotes hand-off of high-capacity donors to the appropriate colleague/s include CEO and Chief Development Officer.
  • Meets regularly with the National Director to discuss strategy and moves.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 -4 years experience in donor relations/donor services midlevel giving or major donor experience in nonprofit foundation or association fundraising with a proven track record of achieving ambitious revenue targets
  • The ability and/or proven evidence of the ability to:
    • Communicate at an advanced level verbal and written
    • Exhibit strong phone skills for example: warm tone good speaking cadence clear and articulate speech
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced results-driven environment
    • Demonstrate a proficiency in building relationships and handle confidential information with discretion
    • Participate in a teamwork driven environment
    • Exhibit effective interpersonal skills that demonstrate tact patience and courtesy
    • Make data-driven recommendations and decisions
    • Possess in-depth knowledge about donor databases. Salesforce experience preferred.
    • Manage time and task completion effectively o Handle tasks independently
    • Demonstrates a strong donor service attitude
  • Interest in mental health highly desirable
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Must pass background check
