Position: Route Coordinator
Reports to: Director and Assistant Director of Transportation
Supervises: None
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Proficient in typing and word processing using Word Excel and other district technology programs.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn transportation routing software (e.g. Transfinder Edulog or similar platforms).
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies including Zonar GPS systems fleet tracking software and geographic information systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for route optimization.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A demonstrated willingness to receive training and improve skills in transportation management systems and other relevant tools.
- Must have or be willing to obtain a Commercial Drivers License with P and S endorsements within one year (paid training provided).
- Alternative qualifications as approved by the Board of Education.
Position Goal: Assist in the daily operation of the Transportation Department. Help process and record payroll responsibilities within the Transportation Department. Receive and document customer concerns and other forms of communication. Answer customer questions and dispatch necessary information.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Develop review and maintain bus routes using routing software and mapping tools.
- Optimize routes for efficiency safety and cost-effectiveness.
- Track Commercial Drivers License (CDL) statuses and expiration dates for drivers.
- Review and update route books.
- Monitor and analyze GPS data to ensure compliance and improve performance.
- Collect and review vehicle videos if requested or needed.
- Draft memos and correspondence as required.
- Serve as a radio dispatcher for buses and other transportation needs.
- Type memos and correspondences as necessary.
- Generate reports on routes mileage and trip performance using technology platforms.
- Provide technical support and training to staff on routing and scheduling systems.
- Substitute for other transportation staff positions when necessary.
- Drive bus routes and trips if required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Employment Terms: Twelve (12) month classified hourly contract
