The Mass General Brigham Medical Group is a system-led operating entity established by Mass General Brigham to provide patient-centered high-quality and innovative community-based ambulatory care. The Medical Group offers a comprehensive array of services including primary and specialty care behavioral and mental health services and urgent care. Care is delivered both digitally and at physical locations across Massachusetts New Hampshire and addition the group provides outpatient surgery and endoscopy imaging cardiac testing and infusion services. There is a strong commitment to ensuring patients receive coordinated and comprehensive experience at all locations guaranteeing that each patient has access to the appropriate level of care throughout the systems delivery sites.

We are seeking a per diem Physician Assistant to support our Inpatient Orthopedics team. The departmental flat rate for this position is $86.00 per hour plus weekend evening overnight and holiday differentials. All per diem PAs are required to work a minimum of two shifts per month.

Schedules are finalized several months in advance allowing providers to select from a wide variety of shifts including days evenings nights weekdays weekends and holidays. Depending on availability per diem shifts range from 6 to 12 hours in duration. This position is based on the NWH Main Campus at 2014 Washington Street Newton MA 02462.

In this role Physician Assistants provide coverage in the Emergency Department on the inpatient floor and perform inpatient surgical consults. Providers practice autonomously at the top of their licensure and are responsible for:
Presenting and discussing patient evaluations with Attending Surgeons to develop appropriate treatment plans
Ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting results
Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to:
oWound care
oTube and drain insertion care and removal
oSuturing and suture removal
oSplint brace and cast application and removal
oMedication administration (including IV push medications and steroid/anesthetic injections)
oCentral venous line removal
oElectrocardiograms
Conducting daily patient rounds
Participating in discharge planning
Educating and counseling patients and families
Orienting medical students physician assistant students and surgical residents to the clinical environment patient care practices and hospital policies
Participating in quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives

Job Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients medical and/or surgical including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. May also perform additional duties such as precepting a small group of learners.

Essential Functions
-Provides direct care counseling and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory inpatient operative and/or procedural setting.
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
-Orders interprets and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic laboratory and physical examination findings.
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes procedure notes operative notes and discharge summaries.
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
