Job Summary | The Project Manager Campus Planning and Facilities Design (CP&FD) Office is responsible for the planning design coordination execution and closeout of assigned capital and renovation projects across campus including offices classrooms laboratories and other academic research residential and administrative facilities. The Project Manager serves as the Institutes representative throughout the project lifecycle and functions as a designer cost estimator project manager and contract administrator. The Project Manager collaborates closely with campus clients consultants contractors Procurement Services Physical Plant Information Technology Environmental Health & Safety and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on schedule within budget and in compliance with institutional standards applicable codes and funding requirements.

Minimum Qualifications | - Associates degree in Construction Technology Architecture Interior Design Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in renovation and/or new construction design and project management.
- Demonstrated experience preparing cost estimates managing construction budgets and overseeing contractors.
- Experience coordinating design and construction activities within an institutional or higher education environment.
Relevant combinations of education training and experience may be considered in lieu of a specific degree. |
Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities | - Working knowledge of construction project delivery methods renovation processes and means and methods
- Understanding of architectural and interior design principles building systems and MEP coordination
- Knowledge of cost estimating budgeting and basic engineering economics.
- Familiarity with construction documents specifications contracts and procurement processes.
- Awareness of applicable codes life safety requirements and accessibility standards
- Strong project management skills including scheduling budgeting and coordination of multiple stakeholders
- Ability to read interpret and develop construction drawings and technical documents.

Representative Job Duties | Project Planning & Scope Development - Collaborate with academic and administrative clients to define project scope objectives and functional requirements.
- Translate user needs into cohesive project plans evaluating alternatives and feasibility.
- Develop preliminary project budgets schedules and delivery strategies.
- Support physical programming and feasibility analyses for renovation and capital projects.
Design & Technical Coordination - Prepare or oversee the preparation of working drawings specifications and bid documents for renovation projects involving architectural interior electrical and mechanical systems.
- Coordinate consultant design services as needed ensuring alignment with Institute standards and approved project scope.
- Review design documents for constructability code compliance budget alignment and schedule impacts.
- Apply interior design principles to the selection of materials finishes furniture and equipment as appropriate.
Cost Estimating & Budget Management - Develop and refine cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project budgets; review contractor pricing; evaluate change requests; and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Partner with Procurement Services to support bidding contractor selection and contract execution.
Construction Administration & Project Delivery - Plan direct and monitor construction activities to ensure quality safety schedule and budget objectives are met.
- Serve as the primary point of contact among the Institute contractors consultants and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate work with Physical Plant IT Environmental Health & Safety Public Safety and other campus units.
- Lead project meetings manage punch lists and ensure timely resolution of issues.
Project Closeout & Asset Handover - Ensure completion of all project closeout activities including inspections documentation and final approvals.
- Coordinate the transfer of record drawings O&M manuals warranties and system training to Physical Plant.
- Verify that newly installed MEP systems are commissioned and that appropriate training is completed.
Problem Solving & Risk Management - Anticipate construction and operational challenges and develop effective contingency plans.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during design and construction.
- Apply creative problem-solving to balance client needs budget constraints and schedule impacts.
Administration & Compliance - Maintain complete and accurate project documentation in accordance with departmental standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes safety regulations accessibility standards (ADA) and Institute policies.
- Support projects with special funding requirements including grants and other restricted funds as applicable.
Professional Collaboration & Service - Represent RPI professionally with consultants contractors and external agencies.
- Build and sustain collaborative relationships with campus stakeholders in support of institutional priorities.
