Director of Finance

Thornblade Club is located in the picturesque valleys and foothills on the eastside of Greenville South Carolina Thornblade Club is a private full-service family-oriented golf and country club ideally located within a few minutes of downtown Greenville and the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. The centerpiece of Thornblades wide array of recreational amenities as well as the greater surrounding Thornblade community is a Tom Fazio-designed golf course. Nineteen-time Champions Tour winner (nine-time PGA Tour winner) Jay Haas is a Founding Member and Honorary Director of Golf and other PGA Champions Lucas Glover and Bill Haas make Thornblade their home Club. Thornblade is the annual host Of BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The Club also has an active golf program for all ages and skill levels including active juniors ladies and mens programs. The junior program is considered one of the finest in South Carolina. The tennis and pool complex at Thornblade features an impressive complex of 11 lighted courts seven of which are Har-Tru surfaced and the remainder all-weather hard courts. More than 150 players participate in nearly 20 competitive USTA league teams. The large pool area is adjacent to tennis and is a very active family-centric environment in the busy summer season. The Blades swim team is comprised of more than 150 swimmers most years and holds over 80 training and competitive events each season.

Club Facts:

Overall operating revenues for the most recent year were approximately $11M.

Full Golf initiation fee at present is $ 50000 with annual dues in this category of $824 per month along with a $158 per month capital charge.

There are approximately 720 member families in all categories with approximately 470 in the Full Golf category.

Food and Beverage revenues total approximately $2.6 M derived from both a la carte and banquet operations.

The Club is organized as a 501(c)(7) not for profit corporation.

Approximately 30000 rounds of golf are played annually.

There are approximately 93 FT and 40 PT year-round employees with that number reaching as high as 140 in total during the height of the summer season.

In recent years the Club has made substantial improvements in its physical facilities.

Accounting Operations:

DF works very closely with and has reporting responsibility to the GM/COO.

DF must have strong analytical technology communication and organizational skills. Additionally the person assuming this position will be highly organized with keen attention to details. The DF will direct the financial affairs of the club and supervises general accounting property accounting internal auditing cost accounting and budgetary controls.

Position Overview and Requirements:

1. Assist the GM/COO on all strategic matters relating to budget preparation and management cost-benefit analysis forecasting needs and internal controls.

2. Prepare monthly financials and report the results to the GM/COO Club Treasurer and Finance Committee.

3. Maintains all accounting records and evaluates the operating results for costs revenues budgets policies of operations and trends.

4. Sending out a monthly P&L report to department heads and gathering explanations for budgetary variances.

5. Monthly KPIs operating statements balance sheet cashflow member equity tracking

6. Accounts payable/receivables cash management account reconciliation petty cash bank deposits and auto payments

7. Directs Capital budget planning and preparation including leasing financing reserves and replacement. Determines applicable depreciation and recovery rates to apply to capitalized assets.

8. Proficiency in ForeTees and Beanworks is a distinct plus or the ability to learn and adapt quickly.

9. Ensures total compliance with all state and federal laws and related tax requirement.s

10. Assumes responsibility for maintaining compliance on all required licenses.

11. Maintain monthly reconciliations for bank and credit card accounts.

12. Maintain historical documents and records.

1. Acts as liaison to the external auditors by explaining journal entries and financial transactions providing research data and information as requested and answering questions necessary to complete the audit in a timely manner.
2. Oversees and manages accounting personnel currently one staff member.

Qualifications:

Director of Finance will be a person of high integrity with an unblemished career path marked by stability and professional achievements.

Club industry experience or solid background in the hospitality industry is a plus but not required.

Bachelors Degree in Accounting.

7 years of professional accounting experience with at least 5 of those years at the Controller/CFO/DF level.

Proficient in GAAP accounting principles

Expertise with Microsoft Office with power user skills in Excel and spreadsheet usage.

Strong analytical skills

Excellent numerical aptitude

Ability to proactively work on multiple projects at one time

Experience in supervising personnel

Excellent oral written and presentation skills

Strong organizational skills and an obsession with covering the details necessary to consistently achieve high level of accuracy.

Beneficial but Not Required:

CPA

Masters in Accounting Finance or Business Administration

Auditing experience
