Job Summary:The Crisis and Consultation Specialist provides triage screening same-day consultation and crisis intervention work to enrolled University students. Provides direct counseling services. Ensures compliance with the Counseling Center Policy and Procedure Manual.

Additional Department Summary:The Crisis and Consultation Specialist works under the direction of the Associate Director of Counseling and Outreach Services and focuses primarily on triage screening same-day consultation and crisis intervention work to enrolled University students. Provides direct counseling services (individual couple group and crisis services). Participates in outreach services to members of the University community as needed. Rotates on-call throughout the year for the purpose of crisis intervention services and will require some after hours work. Works with people in distress and encounters life-threatening emergencies routinely (intervenes with a student who is acutely suicidal and making threats in their residential area etc.). Maintain knowledge of and adheres to all policies and procedures as contained in the Counseling Center Policy and Procedure Manual. Completes required training and promoting a safe hospitable and respectful workplace. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing enforcing and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.

Required Minimum Qualifications:Masters degree or higher in counseling psychology or social work. Must be licensure eligible in the State of Alabama.

Skills and Knowledge:High degree of sophistication of thought and creativity due to the complex nature of human problems. Excellent judgment and problem solving skills. Thorough knowledge of the myriad factors behind the resolution of psychological problems. Excellent human relations communication advocacy and mental health intervention skills. Superior time and task management skills including the use or departmental resources to stay up to date on customer needs. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills such as word processing and email. Ability to work flexible and evening hours. Ability to work with various populations. Ability to use sound judgment and competence in managing critical incidents and communications with others. Ability to effectively interact with University community members for the purpose of program development.

Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.

Preferred Qualifications:College or University counseling center experience. Masters degree in Counseling Psychology or Social Work and one a half (1.5) years of experience in consultation services group therapy teaching outreach student work or case management. Related student or Graduate Assistant intern or student-oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience it must be detailed in the employment section on the application.
