Head of Litigation
About the Role:
This is a rare senior leadership opportunity for an experienced Commercial Litigation lawyer who wants more than a traditional partnership track. The role offers the mandate to build lead and grow a litigation practice as a business within a business backed by the infrastructure reputation and client base of a well-established corporate and commercial law firm.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director you will take full ownership of the Commercial Litigation practice-its strategy performance profitability and people. You will act as the primary strategic advisor on complex matters mentor and develop junior lawyers and play a critical role in shaping the firms future growth.
This role is ideally suited to a lawyer with strong commercial instincts leadership ambition and an entrepreneurial mindset who is seeking genuine autonomy financial upside and a clear pathway to equity.
Key Responsibilities:
Practice Leadership
- Take full responsibility for the strategic direction performance and growth of the Commercial Litigation group.
Matter Ownership
- Lead and manage complex commercial litigation matters from inception through to resolution acting as the primary strategic advisor to clients.
Practice Development
- Build and manage your client base by leveraging existing relationships while actively developing new referral networks and opportunities.
- Drive revenue growth with business development outcomes directly linked to your bonus structure.
Strategic Collaboration
- Work closely with Corporate Advisory and Commercial teams to secure and deliver high-value cross-practice mandates.
Talent Development
- Supervise mentor and empower junior lawyers building a high-performing litigation team and future leaders of the firm.
Thought Leadership
- Enhance profile and credibility through articles presentations seminars and industry engagement positioning yourself as a recognised authority in your field.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee practice management ensuring efficient matter administration and achievement of individual and team financial targets that unlock earnings potential.
Skills and Attributes Required:
- Minimum 7 years post-admission experience in commercial litigation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation matters independently.
- Proven leadership capability including mentoring and developing junior lawyers.
- Strong advocacy and negotiation skills with a history of successful client outcomes.
- High commercial acumen with the ability to understand broader business implications and opportunities.
- A proven track record-or strong aptitude-for business development team building and revenue growth.
