Description of Work

The North Carolina Zoo is growing and it is an exciting time to join our team! The Zoo is seeking a dynamic efficient and enthusiastic individual to serve as Public Relations Coordinator. The Public Relations Coordinator position will have the highly visible and important role of organizing and representing the North Carolina Zoo at public speaking engagements priority tours and other writing or PR assignments as needed under the direction of the Zoos Public Relations Officer. The key focus of the PR Coordinator is to influence the public perception of the brand promote the Zoos mission and market the Zoo experience. This person must be engaging professional in appearance a strategic and analytical thinker quick decision-maker self-starter flexible and an excellent written/verbal communicator. The Public Relations Coordinator will work on the Communications team and regularly assist with external stakeholder presentations media escorts and professional writing assignments.

Key Responsibilities
Plans schedules logistics and leads priority tours around the Zoo.
Drafts edits and publishes web copy radio ad scripts and blogs/articles as needed.
Assists with the implementation and execution of communications team-related activities.
Represents the organization through effective public speaking and professional presentations
Utilizes news media effectively by delivering on-camera interviews preparing press releases and leading media escorts/tours.

Position/Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work a rotating schedule that involves working weekends holidays and after regular work shifts.
  • This position is eligible for hybrid work up to 2 days per week.
  • This position involves light work including exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds or force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Successful candidates must be able to reach stand walk push grasp feel talk hear and perform repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to participate in the Zoos Occupational Health Program for vaccines and testing.
  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have superior written/verbal communication skills with prior journalistic experience.
  • Must be an innovative creative effective and resourceful thinker and marketer.
  • Must be able to remain flexible and be comfortable working in a changing environment.
  • Must have a positive attitude and enthusiasm for contributing to the goals of the organization.
  • Must have personable on-camera skills required for assigned media and PR events.

This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCRs Telework Policy.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in communications public relations public affairs journalism English or related field from an appropriately accredited institution

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
