We do this through the provision of quality services and programs in a culturally safe environment facilitating employment and training opportunities supporting strong community leadership and advocating for community needs and aspirations.

Summary:

The purpose of the Cancer Health Promotion Officer is to create awareness and deliver education to community members to encourage positive behaviour change by planning developing and delivering health promotion activities using a variety of resources and strategies. These programs and resources are to be locally relevant and culturally safe and responsive with the intention of increasing the adoption of health promoting behaviours and screening participation in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Provide practical day-to-day support and assistance with navigating the health and community support systems involved in and around the cancer journey.

The position will focus on strengthening the partnership and Aboriginal community engagement to increase cancer screening participation to ensure early diagnosis and increased chance of survival. Working closely with the Moogji clinic team wellbeing team and other professionals to improve the health and wellbeing of patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop local cancer communication campaigns and engagement activities

Create and deliver cancer awareness messaging

Develop a holistic screening model of care

Develop health promotion resources and materials

Improve delivery and accessibility of mainstream cancer services and provide support for community members with cancer

Assist the Moogji Wellbeing team in providing programs to the Aboriginal community and raising awareness about Cancer Screening.

Ensure appropriate comprehensive multidisciplinary primary health care is provided to all patients with a focus on cancer patients to support them and their families (i.e completed Aboriginal health assessments)
