Job Summary

About The Role

Our client is a leading player in the wholesale import and export sector specialising in fast-moving consumer goods. They work with international suppliers to distribute high-quality products across the country including personal care items household products healthcare goods and food & beverages serving retailers wholesalers and trade outlets through an extensive distribution network.

Role Purpose:

To drive sales growth and distribution by effectively managing assigned territories and customer accounts within the Eastern Region (Machakos Kitui Makueni Mlolongo Athi river Kitengela Isinya & Surrounding Areas). The Sales Representative (Preseller) is responsible for order generation outlet expansion visibility execution and ensuring excellent trade relationships to achieve set targets.


Key Responsibilities


1. Sales Execution

  • Generate daily presales orders from assigned outlets in line with route plans.

  • Achieve monthly volume value and productivity targets.

  • Conduct cash sales directly to retailers for gums ensuring immediate payment and proper receipt.

  • Ensure effective SKU coverage and order completeness per outlet.

  • Achieve and exceed monthly sales volume value and distribution targets

  • Drive new product introductions and monitor performance in trade.


2. Distribution & Merchandising

  • Expand the outlet universe by identifying and recruiting new customers.

  • Ensure product availability and visibility in all active outlets.

  • Implement merchandising standards POS placement and shelf management as per brand guidelines.

  • Work closely with delivery teams to ensure timely fulfilment of presales orders.


3. Market Intelligence

  • Track competitor activities pricing and trade promotions and report insights weekly.

  • Identify emerging market opportunities and recommend action plans.

  • Collect customer feedback to support brand and sales strategy refinement.


4. Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong trade relationships with retailers wholesalers and key accounts.

  • Handle trade complaints professionally and escalate unresolved issues promptly.

  • Act as the face of the company in the market upholding company values and service standards.


5. Reporting and Compliance

  • Submit daily call reports presales data and market feedback to the Area Sales Manager.

  • Adhere to company policies on credit pricing and route compliance.

  • Maintain accurate outlet records and ensure all trade documentation is complete.




Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelors degree in Sales Marketing Business or related field.

  • Minimum of 23 years experience in FMCG sales preferably as a pre-seller or van sales rep.

  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.

  • Proficient in route planning order generation systems and basic MS Office tools.

  • Self-driven disciplined and familiar with the Eastern Kenya market geography and trade dynamics.

  • Possession of a valid driving license (Class B or C) is an added advantage.



Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)


  • Achievement of monthly sales and coverage targets.

  • Numeric and weighted distribution growth.

  • Outlet productivity (average order per call).

  • Execution of visibility and merchandising standards.

  • Accuracy and timeliness of presales reporting.





Required Skills:

Minimum of 23 years experience in FMCG sales preferably as a pre-seller or van sales rep. Strong negotiation and relationship management skills. Proficient in route planning order generation systems and basic MS Office tools. Self-driven disciplined and familiar with the Eastern Kenya market geography and trade dynamics. Possession of a valid driving license (Class B or C) is an added advantage.
