Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a dynamic Major Projects Operations Director to join our Mobility Global Business Area (GBA) in Canada. This leadership role is responsible for aligning service delivery resource allocation and project risk management across the Business Area while driving consistency in operational approaches and accelerating service transformation. The Major Projects Operations Director will report directly to the Business Area Director and have an indirect reporting line to the North American Major Projects Director. This position is based in Canada and can be located at any of our Canadian offices.

We are looking for an individual with proven experience in leading transformational change inspiring teams through periods of uncertainty and fostering a stable and secure environment that avoids change fatigue. The ideal candidate has a strong track record managing complex organizational change whether through divestments mergers and acquisitions scaling start-ups or expanding into new markets services or products. Experience in turning around underperforming teams or programs and driving standardization and automation at scale is highly valued. Additionally the successful candidate will be adept at leveraging data for decision making demonstrating value through data-driven insights and will possess a keen interest in emerging technologies and digital solutions.

Role accountabilities:

In this role you will be responsible for overseeing project performance governance change control cash collection compliance and service excellence across our major projects portfolio. You will actively foster an environment that encourages the adoption of best practices focusing on standardization automation and the integration of digital tools to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.

You will lead the governance of project setup and handover processes tailored to the scale of operations within each country. Your responsibilities will include the allocation of project managers conducting targeted training to strengthen the capability and performance of the project management team and ensuring robust project reviews and risk management regimes are consistently applied. By providing project and commercial support you will help teams achieve successful delivery outcomes in line with client expectations and organizational objectives.

Collaboration will be central to your role as you will work closely with growth finance and legal teams to ensure projects are well supported from inception through completion. You will be accountable for maintaining a comprehensive watch list and risk & opportunity register providing clear visibility on key project risks and mitigation strategies. Additionally you will take an active role in resource supply and demand forecasting ensuring plans are in place to meet both current and future project needs.

This position offers the opportunity to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement across our Mobility projects playing a pivotal role in delivering value for both our clients and the organization.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in engineering business or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years experience leading and growing a major business function within a multinational engineering or professional services firm
  • Demonstrated success in major projects operations and delivery including governance risk management and project execution
  • Ability to inspire lead and align multi-disciplinary teams toward common operational and project delivery goals
  • High level of intellectual professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility
  • Strong collaboration skills with experience influencing stakeholders at all organizational levels particularly senior leadership
  • Deep understanding of business drivers and organizational goals with consistent application in operational decisions
  • Exceptional communication skills capable of conveying complex issues clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences
  • Excellent time management organizational and multi-tasking abilities in high-pressure environments
  • Proven decision-making skills with the ability to handle conflicting priorities and drive successful project outcomes

The salary range for this position is $197000 - $247000. The base salary represents Arcadis hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors such as location skills experience and qualification for the role.
