Job Summary
As the central part of Remote Software Upgrade (RSU) for BMW vehicles our team is responsible in making sure to update all ECUs over the air. Our component runs on Linux and is a middleware which communicates with the Backend HMI and other ECUs and orchestrates the entire Software update within the vehicle. BMW has delivered over 10 million Remote Software Upgrades to its global vehicle fleet. These updates which enhance features and optimize vehicle systems are delivered directly to customers vehicles eliminating the need for dealership visits. BMWs software-defined vehicles with numerous computing units benefit from these updates improving driving assistance infotainment personalization and security.
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Problem Manager for our team in BTI. As a key player of this critical product you will be the single point of contact for all defects related to RSU. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining a reliable and innovative RSU experience for our customers.
As a Problem Manager for Remote Software Upgrade you will be responsible for identifying analyzing and resolving software-related issues or problems in a timely manner according to their priority and severity. Reporting the statuses of the tickets and resolution timelines to the management will be done on a regular basis.
Moreover in your role you will be having syncs with higher management aligning on inter-project coordination. You will be working in close collaboration with the dependent teams and other internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive problems to a resolution within the development team
- Pre-analysis of logs and technical traces to summarize defects
- Detect issues patterns and resolve impediments which help with faster resolution in future
- Assure ticket hygiene and defect management process compliance for the incoming ticket
- Defect triaging daily categorization according to the priority
- Close coordination with stakeholders on priorities timeline for implementation tasks change requests and bug fixes
- Coordination with internal team for the fixes or deeper code analysis
- Daily control and tracking of defects handled by the RSU team until its actually tested and integrated
- Maintaining defect statistics for reporting
- Negotiating bug priorities and integration schedule with project management
- Business fluent English
- University degree in computer science or a comparable field of study
- Understanding of professional software development processes and practices - experience working with full software life cycle
- Sound communication skills. You should be able to articulate clearly the defect summary to outside stakeholders
- Ability to grasp how code makes its way from local repository to the customer vehicle
- Ability to dive into complex product and to quickly navigate in it
- Experience managing defects in previous projects
- Hands-on experience with Jira Git/Gerrit or any version control system
