EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED and/or 30 semester hours of an accredited college or university
- Educational Aide Certificate from state of Texas
EXPERIENCE: Ability to work well with children
Position Function/Purpose Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Maintain a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher on a daily basis. |
Major Responsibilities 1. Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured environment. 2. Work with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher. 3. Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments. 4. Distribute collect and check student assignments for accuracy. 5. Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers. 6. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies administrative regulations and Individual Education Plans (IEP). 7. Record student attendance and discipline referrals using computer. 8. Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and bathroom breaks. 9. Maintain confidentiality. 10. Participate in staff development training program faculty meetings and special events as assigned. 11. All other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or DAEP Teacher. |
Qualification Requirements 1. High School Diploma or GED 2. 30 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR meets NCLB requirements for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals. - Possess or be willing to apply for a TEA Educational Aide Certificate (personal expense)
Educational Aide certificate as established by the State Board for Educator Certification. The applicant for the educational aide certificate shall 1. hold a high school diploma the equivalent of a high school diploma or higher; 2. have satisfied one of the following requirements: a. have three creditable years of experience as defined in Chapter 153 Subchapter CC of this title (relating to Commissioners Rules on Creditable Years of Service) as either an educational aide I or II; or b. have completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas; have experience working with students and parents as approved by the employing superintendent. 4. Possess or apply for SBEC paraprofessional certificate (personal expense) 5. Ability to work well with children 6. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions 7. Ability to use computer |
